Respect Optimism Care Collaboration
It has been a great week (and a bit) with all our students
back within the school grounds. All classes have settled in
well and are getting back into the routine of learning. The
focus has been on rebuilding our classes as collaborative
communities of learners, revisiting our classroom
expectations and routines, and developing and practicing
our wellbeing strategies through the Establishment Program.
Our literacy and numeracy program is in full swing and
students are working hard showing what they can do and
reassessing their learning goals. We have been extremely
proud of how the students have transitioned back into the
classroom environment. We also appreciate how our staff,
parents and carers have transitioned back into this new way
of working together.
A reminder that students’ reports will be shared with families
via Compass on Thursday 25th June. The last day of term
two is Friday 26th June and students will be dismissed at
2.20pm. Due to the ban on large gatherings we will not hold
an assembly. The first day back for students for term three is
Tuesday 14th July as the Monday is a student free curriculum
day. On this day staff will be participating in professional
learning around the teaching of reading and spelling along
with aspects of student voice.
Again I thank everyone in our school community for your
support during this term. I hope you all enjoy a well-deserved
relaxing and restful holiday period. Be well and stay safe!

Term Three Camps (Year 3/4 & 5/6)
Two surveys were sent to our Year 3/4 and 5/6 parents/carers regarding our camps
scheduled for term three. We ask that each family responds to assist us with our planning.
Year 3/4 camp survey link here: https://tinyurl.com/34camp2020
Year 5/6 camp survey link here: https://tinyurl.com/56camp2020
When planning our camps, we will of course take into consideration any further DET or
DHHS updates to ensure the safety of our staff and students. We will be following DET
advice regarding students and staff safety, including extra hand hygiene, cleaning etc. If
any changes arise we will inform parents straight away. If camp were to be cancelled due
to the COVID19 pandemic parents would receive a full refund.
The return to school arrangements are again outlined below. Please note, these
arrangements will continue in term 3 unless informed otherwise by DHHS and DET. Any
further updates or changes will be communicated to families via Compass.
OSHClub
I share the news that at the end of term two we will be saying goodbye to Caitlin Ruyg.
Caitlin has taken another leadership position in another child care program.
We thank Caitlin for her leadership, support and friendly manner in which she has led the
OSHClub team over the past few years. We will miss her but wish her well as she builds her
leadership skills and attributes in her new and exciting leadership role. Good luck Caitlin!
School Council Update
At our April Annual general Meeting all new members were introduced and welcomed.
The new sub committees were formed (Finance, Education, Facilities, Out of School Hours
Care).
At both the April and May meeting we discussed changes to teaching/learning and school
operations relating to COVID 19 .
The Annual Report to the School Community was tabled and approved. This has since
been uploaded to the school website for public viewing.
The Engagement Policy was ratified after minimal feedback from the school community
(through the newsletter).
The School Council continues to work through the DET processes for our uniform and out of
school hours care providers. Once contracts are finalised this will be shared with the school
community.

Repeated Information
Return to school arrangements
Thanks to the families of our families that have been following the guidelines created for
the return to school. This includes the map (below) and also using the assigned exits/
entrances and being safe around the school.
We encourage families to continue:
demonstrating road safety - making sure you are clear of the road when you are
waiting on the footpath
practicing physical distancing when waiting at pick up or coming in at drop off times
showing care around the Bent/Fanny Street roundabout – please ensure you are clear
of the road, and don’t cross Bent Street at the roundabout – use the crossing near the
playground
using the dedicated crossings on Bent Street and Wilson Street
parking while following the road/street rules
following the Drop off Zone rules and guideline
arriving just after the bell at the end of the day so you do not have to wait for your
child/ren (there will be a teacher on yard duty until 3:35pm)
arriving at or just after 8:45am so that you can leave your child with the staff on yard
duty in the morning before they go into their class from 8:50am.
Please see the map for further details.
If you child is ill or is feeling unwell, they must not attend school. They must remain home
and seek medical advice.

Drop Off and Pick Up
Student are asked to arrive between 8.45-9am each day (as per normal routines) and
when they arrive say good bye to their parents outside the school gate (or in the yard
if needed) and then head into their classroom.
Students won’t line up before school or play in the yard before school. Teachers will
be in classrooms from 8.50am waiting to greet the students and begin the day.
At the end of the day students will be dismissed by their teachers and then will make
their way outside. Parents are asked to collect their child at the school gate or at a
meeting spot on the yard close to school exits. We then ask that you promptly leave
the school boundary or grounds to assist with social distancing.
The school gates will be designated and signposted as entrances or exits only. We ask
that you follow these directions to ensure adults are entering and exiting the school
grounds in one direction. This may mean walking to the next gate to enter or exit the
school grounds.
Hygiene routines
Students must wash their hands using the soap provided in classrooms upon entry to a
learning space (at the start of the day, after a break or upon change of class). Hand
sanitiser is also available in all classrooms as well.
Hand hygiene immediately before and after use of shared equipment is
recommended.
Students must wash their hands (or use hand sanitiser) after going to the toilet and
before and after eating.
No use of drink taps – students to bring their own water bottle and refill as required
from classroom taps.
Italian, performing and visual arts classes will occur in the student’s classrooms (and
not in their specialist’s rooms).
DET have also funded extensive and extra cleaning that will occur during the day and
after hours.
Recess and Lunch Arrangements
The school playground will only be open during recess and lunch break times and not
before and after school.
We also ask that students do not bring any play items or sports equipment from home
to school. Student will also be prohibited from playing touch or tag games during
break times.
There will be no lunch order service for the remainder of term two.
Adult access to the school
As per DET requirements access to the school will include minimising the number of adults
onsite.
Only MPPS staff and contractors will be permitted inside the school buildings.
All parental contact should be via email, phone or video conference where possible.
Parents dropping of important documents (i.e. enrolment forms, medical actions
plans, etc.) will be allowed to the school office.
We ask that during the school day parents enter via Wilson St entrance.

Physical Distancing for Adults
Adults in the school yard must adhere to physical distancing protocols and are asked
not to hang around and chat with other parents.
We encourage all families to discuss drop off and pick up routines with their child/ren
before they come to school. This will reduce anxiety in the morning and ensure
students can meet you directly after school.
The parent helpers program in the classroom will not operate and school assemblies
have been cancelled until further notice.
We thank all the adults in our community in advance by following these guidelines to
ensure the safety of our staff and students (which is paramount).
Library
Currently students are not accessing the library due to COVID19 restrictions. Students can
access books within the classroom libraries. Teachers will also be able to select and borrow
our library texts on their students’ behalf, to support student engagement with literature.
This process will continue for a little longer until we receive further notification from DET.
Any families that have library books that they wish to return are asked to use the following
process:
1. At home, wipe down the outside of the books with disinfectant before returning them
to the library.
2. Place the book in the appropriate “return tub” located outside the library. There will
be three tubs labelled as:
Picture Story
Fiction
Non Fiction
These books will then be processed by Olga (our Library technician) as per DET process. This
will include disinfecting them again and ensuring that they are isolated for the
recommended period of time before being re-shelved.
Uniform
Currently Noone Imagewear is not attending school on Tuesdays from 3-4pm until further
notice. Their store is open (and enforcing physical distancing practices) at 543 Keilor Rd,
Niddrie (phone: 9379 5037). They are open six days a week and can assist with any clothing
enquiries. The school operates a second hand uniform shop and does have limited
garments available. For this term we encourage contacting Carol in the office on 9375
2511 rather the normal process of calling our parent helper Gill.
If anyone has any questions or queries during this time, please email me via Compass or at

This feels like a good time for gratitude. When things are starting to
normalise again, taking a bit of time out to be grateful for things we
took for granted or things that were normal for a bit can provide us
with a moment of happiness. Don’t we all want that? Here are a
few ways we can practice gratitude in ourselves or our kids.
Write a letter (or email or even a text!) to someone to thank them
for something they have done for you. It could be a family member,
friend or someone who does something for you or provides you with
someone.
Create a gratitude jar, where you leave some post it notes by a jar
in your kitchen, lounge, bedroom or classroom and as you think of
things you are grateful for, you write them down and place them in
the jar. Just looking at it, fulling up, is a nice feeling.
Tell someone in person or on a video/
voice call that you are grateful for
something they have done to help you.
Write a list of things you are grateful for.
How many can you write?

LIBRARY NEWS
Overdue books
To date we have 483 Library books overdue.
Please remind students to return all overdue Library books. Families
that have library books that they wish to return are asked to wipe
down the outside of the books with disinfectant before returning
them to the library.
Library books are to be placed on the Library trolley outside the
main entrance to the Library and not on the Library desk. The trolley
has been labelled Picture Story, Fiction and Non-Fiction.
Thank-you,
