Principal: Mr Tim Allen Email: [email protected] Week 11 Term 1 Friday, April 12, 2013 Phone: 69 557162 Fax: 69 557477 Welcome to Week 11 of Term 1 and the end of a very busy term at Yanco Public School. Congratulations everyone on a fantastic Bike Day and Bike-thon held today! It was my first time participating in this annual event and I thoroughly enjoyed the day. The students displayed excellent support for each other on the 16 kilometre ride through the Murrumbidgee Forest Park. A big thank you to those who assisted with organisation; Mrs Thomas (coordinating bikes for students), Mrs Frazer (access to toilets at Ski Beach), Kim Dolan and the P & C (lunch), Year 5/6 (setting up the bike course at school), Dom from Pacific Fresh Leeton (donation of oranges) and to all the parents who assisted on the day with the transportation of students and their bikes, assisting with supervision on the ride and the donation of fruit. I look forward to the event next year. Last Friday the Year 5/6 girls participated in the LNPSSA Girls Netball Gala Day, with Mrs Thomas supervising the Small Schools Team. A great day was had by both Mrs Thomas and the girls. Well done girls and thank you Mrs Thomas. Tomorrow the Year 5/6 students are participating in the LNPSSA Softball Gala Day in Leeton. Last Friday while the girls were at netball the Year 3 -6 boys participated in a ‘Boys Day’. I was very impressed by the writing skills displayed by the boys during the ‘horror’ writing activities in the morning. Some very creative and impressive pieces of writing were completed. I hope to share these with you next term. The boys also enjoyed the ‘football’ maths activities and the Wii Olympic sports, but the highlight of the day was definitely the making of the Green Slime. I would also like to thank the Yanco Public School P & C who held their monthly meeting this week and have agreed to assist with the purchase of guided reading resources to the value of $800. This is in addition to their support of the wireless network installation for the same amount. The P & C does a wonderful job with a small but committed number of workers and with their support a number of initiatives take place. On behalf of staff and students a big thank you for your continued support. Included in the last two editions of the school newsletter is an article on the ICAS competitions. Please consider entering your child in this competition, as it is a valuable learning experience and all students receive a certificate. Next term there will be a change to the administration of the school front office, due to the lower than anticipated enrolments. Parents will receive a letter at the beginning of next term informing them of the changes. In Week 3 of Term 2 all students in Year 3 and 5 will sit the annual NAPLAN testing on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, 14 th to the 16 th May 2013. In closing may I wish all students and staff a very enjoyable break. Until next term, Tim Allen, Principal Last Saturday our School Captains represented Y.P.S. at the unveiling of the Sir Samuel McCaughey statue at Yanco. CALENDAR - WHAT’S ON?
