Our staff will continue to help and engage with the students while maintaining open communications with parents’ queries. We wish to thank all the participants involved in the Parkash Purab Guru Angad Dev Ji Assembly and Langar this past week. It was a wonderful celebration and we thank you all for coming. The annual Vaisakhi Nagar Kirtan was a tremendous success this year! The school is very grateful for having the opportunity to display our students performance skills in the celebration! Thank you to all volunteers for helping us in the festivities. Registration for 2016-2017: If you have family or friends thinking to register their child in G.A.D. Elementary for the 2016-2017 school year, please encourage them to come to the school office at the earliest as spots get filled up quickly. Children born in 2011 are eligible for admission to Kindergarten as well. Registration for Summer School is open. Summer school will run from July 4-July 29. Please register now to review concepts and prepare for the next grade. New Curriculum : For the 2016- 2017 school year the curriculum in BC will be changing and more emphasis will be given to understanding skills and processes. If you would like to learn more about the curriculum please visit the following website: https://curriculum.gov.bc.ca/rethinking- curriculum Field Hockey Club: Mr. Basra is running a club for both boys and girls in grades 2-3. It is on Saturday from 8:50-10:00 in the school gym. This is a free club and we encourage our students to participate in this fun filled activity! Salmon Release: Students in Ms. Vandher’s and Miss Mangat’s class released their Coho Salmon fry into Bear Creek after taking care of them for the past 3 months. Students in both classes took great pride in caring for the salmon, and learned the importance of keeping creeks and streams clean for young salmon fry. We hope their journey to the sea will be a healthy and adventurous one! May 13 th Interim Report Cards: The school will be issuing brief reports on the progress of your children. This is an excellent opportunity to review your child’s progress and discuss their school life. GAD Science Fair: Our schools science fair was a tremendous success. Students from the different grade levels in 1 st , 2 nd or 3 rd place received trophies, medals or certificates. We wish to thank all the students for their hard work and dedication! Excellent work everyone for making this year’s science fair a fun filled learning event.

Volunteer Parents are welcome to volunteer and help out around the school. We all here wish to thank all parents for participating and being involved in the school community. If you are interested in volunteering please enquire in the office.
Jump Rope for Heart: We raised $3,146.85 for jump rope for heart! What a great contribution by our wonderful school community! This money will go directly towards heart disease and stroke research.

South Fraser Regional Science Fair: Two of our groups from grade 7 made it into the South Fraser Regional Science Fair held at the SFU Surrey Campus. We would like to congratulate Harnoor Kaur Sandhu and Gurnoor Kaur who displayed a wonderful project called the Observant Eye. Also congratulations go to Bhuvneet Thiara and Eknoor Kaur Toor who submitted their project on Antacid Potency. This was a wonderful learning experience for them as they competed against students from grades 7-12 and we are all so proud of their efforts! 2016 Spelling Bee of Canada Championship: The BC regional spelling bee championship was held recently and many of our students participated. Congratulations to all of our students! Many of our students successfully participated in the finals. We wish to congratulate, Harnoor Boparai, Manvir Dhindsa, Maya Sidhu, Simone Samra, Tajnoor Aulakh, Aasees Raina, Jaskirat Sandhu, Neha Chahal, Sukhbreet Gill who all made it to the final rounds of the tournament! Way to go everyone! Scholastic Book Fair: There will be an incredible selection of books coming to the school this month! The scholastic book fair will be held from May 11-May 13 and again on May 16, please take this opportunity to purchase some great new books for yourself and your family. Mother’s Day Assembly: On May 5th 2C and KGD will be hosting an assembly about
Uniform Please remember to come to school dressed in your full school uniform. This includes ties, sweater, and blazer. Uniforms give students a sense of belonging to the school community and create an identity. Wearing the full uniform with pride is a way of building respectfulness and discipline.
