Boys and Girls Club manages a before and after school program for our local community. This is a non-profit child care program licensed by the Ministry of Community Family and Children’s Services. The program provides spaces for children in grades JK – 5. The program operates during the school year, on P.A. Days, and holidays. Hours of operation are 7:15 – 8:50 a.m. and 3:25 – 6:00 p.m. Princess Margaret Junior School is located in a family-oriented community, in the vicinity of Martin Grove and Eglinton. We currently serve approximately 350 students representing a diversity of cultural backgrounds. Princess Margaret Junior School was first opened in September 1959 and served the children of the community for the next twenty-five years. The school was closed in June 1984 due to declining enrolment. In 1995, when the primary/junior-aged population had grown sufficiently in the community, the school was officially re-opened by Her Royal Highness, The Princess Margaret, on Friday, July 12, 1996. Mission Statement Princess Margaret Junior School, proud of our Royal connection, ensures equal opportunity for all our students to grow in an enriching, safe and caring environment committed to academic excellence. In partnership with our parents and local community, we instill in our students a desire to become life-long learners who think independently, use technology effectively, and demonstrate respect for themselves, others, and the environment.

Eco SchoolsWe strive to maintain our Eco School status and continue to implement the various environmentalawareness initiatives already established.  We promote ecological responsibility and sustainableattitudes and behaviour throughout our school community.  Example programs: recycling, E-Wastecollection, Rainbow Warriors, “Lights Out”, and Earth Month initiatives.

Anti-BullyingWe strive to ensure that Safe School programs and initiatives are fully implemented and thatCharacter Education is an integral component of our learning goals.  Students are actively engagedin conflict resolution and are determined to keep PMJS a “bully-free” zone.  Example programs:Character Development, Peacekeepers, and Safety Knights. 

Fit for LifeWe promote a healthy, active lifestyle.  Students in grades 1 – 5 receive gym and daily DPA.  Aswell, all students are engaged in mindfulness activities each day.  Students are learning about thebody/mind/spirit connection, and are developing their knowledge of how to improve their personallevel of fitness and personal well-being.

Specialized ProgramsStudents are provided with the opportunity to learn from various in-school and communityspecialists.  Students are engaged in a variety of arts-based experiences (e.g., Recorders, Choir,Fit2Dance, and Fit Hop).  Through Partners in Action and STEM programs, students have theopportunity to integrate information technology into their regular daily work.

Student Life - Where You Belong

Princess Margaret Junior School is actively engaged invarious fundraising initiatives throughout the year to supportlocal community groups and world sponsored organizations.Each year we participate in Autism Awareness Day, JumpRope for Heart, Terry Fox Run, Christmas Food and ToyDrive, and E-Waste Collection. We sponsor TorontoFoundation for Student Success and Sleeping Children.Thisfall, we supported Ronald McDonald House CharitiesToronto.  We collected over 35 boxes of most needed items,such as boxed snacks, toiletries, kitchen supplies, schoolsupplies, and baby products.

What Sets Us Apart

Technology is becoming an increasingly important aspect ofschool life.  At Princess Margaret, we have taken steps toinfuse technology in teaching and learning.  Students aregrowing up in a digital age.  Therefore, we continuouslyprovide them with opportunities to use computers as theylearn content related to curriculum objectives.  Our teachersare using technology to engage students and supportstudent success. We have interative whiteboards, school-wide wirelessaccess to the internet, a fully equipped computer lab,ladibug document readers, computers in every classroom,tablets and laptops in junior classrooms, and iPads in allclassrooms.

Parent and Community Engagement

Princess Margaret Junior School has an active School Council that meets monthly.  Parents regularlyvolunteer in the school.  The School Council fundraising initiatives support school and communityactivities and events such as visiting performers, Scientists in Schools, Blue Spruce and Silver Birchprograms, and author visits.   Princess Margaret maintains ongoing partnerships with our localsecondary school.  We liaise with various teacher training and child and youth worker institutes such asOttawa, Lakehead, DeValle, and Humber College.   We partner with John G. Boys and Girls Club tocoordinate various events and activities throughout the year.

Imagine a TDSB where all schools share a common core set of characteristics. They arecommunity-driven and focused on teaching and learning. Students and parents have a wide variety ofopportunities and there are enough students in every school to increase program choices. Imagine there is a clear focus on achieving student success and every student is engaged, has a voice,access to a caring adult and the opportunity to develop their full potential. Here at the TDSB our focus is on student achievement, parent and community engagement and financialstability.
