As I write, we are about to start a new year - one which will mark my 15th as Manager of the Princes Hall. When I look back at my time here, I am extremely proud of what we have all achieved, and consider myself very lucky to be working at such a happy, vibrant venue. Like myself, the majority of our staff have worked here for many years, and I think one of the reasons for this is because the job is so varied and interesting. Last year we hosted almost 900 events, from wrestling and boxing, to ballet and banquets. No two days are the same. As well as the professional shows for which we are best known, we host numerous community events, with our incredibly successful Youth Theatre leading the way. We now have seven groups, with well over 100 young people meeting weekly to learn about acting and build in confidence. Our monthly Snap Disco’s for 11 to 16 year olds are also still going strong, and we are introducing a number of improvements to the event this January to make them even more exciting.
The highlight of our year is always the annual pantomime, and this Christmas is no exception. As I write, ‘Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs’ is proving a huge success, with tremendous reviews, and numerous sell-out performances. This coming year’s production will be ‘Cinderella’, the most magical pantomime of them all, and tickets are already on sale, (see page 16-17).
We have another strong season of shows this Spring, opening mid-January with ‘Sing-a-long-a Frozen’. This phenomenally
successful Disney movie is a classic and, having already sold out three shows in the Autumn, the return shows are almost sold out. Don’t worry too much if you have missed out, as there’s plenty more great family entertainment to look forward to with The Moscow State Circus, Milkshake Live!, The Chuckle Brothers and Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom all visiting.
We have our usual selection of top comedians, including Tim Vine, Henning Wehn, Lee Nelson and Al Murray, and a particularly strong line-up of tribute shows, with The Country Superstars Experience, Let’s Twist Again and Waterloo, visiting us for the very first time.
From March time, you are likely to notice some significant improvements to the process when booking tickets online through our website www.princeshall.com. We have recently engaged a new ticketing supplier, and I am confident you will find the new service much simpler and easier to use.
If you have any comments about our new online booking system, or indeed any aspect of our service, then I would love to hear from you. Please email me at [email protected] or telephone on 01252 327671.
Enjoy the season!

After more than a decade in Britain, the German Comedy Ambassador has ‘groan’ to like puns.... though he still couldn’t eat a whole one. As Henning’s assimilation is not yet complete he hasn’t lost his sense of Westphalian wonderment at the foibles of British society. Expect an evening-long crash course in personal accountability and have a right old laugh at the same time! Wunderbar!
