A Mothers Day

Prayer

“I thank you,

Creator of us all,

for my mother. I

thank you that

she gave me life

and nurtured me

all those years.

She gave me my

faith, helping me

to know you and to know Jesus

and his ways. She taught me how

to love and how to sacrifice for

others. She taught me that it was

okay to cry and that I should

always tell the truth. Bless her with

the graces she needs and which

you want to give her today. Help

her to feel precious in your eyes

today and to know that I love her.

Give her strength and courage,

compassion and peace. Bless her

this day with your love.” Amen.

Blessed Damien Joseph

de Veuster, Priest

(May 10)

Joseph de Veuster, who

took the name Damien as

a priest, was sent to the

Hawaiian missions in 1864. In 1873,

he volunteered to help the lepers

living on the island of Molokai. For the

rest of his life, he served them,

administering the Sacraments,

treating their injuries, building shelters

and a hospital. He insisted that lepers

be given the same respect, kindness,

and courtesy that was due to all God’s

children. In 1885, Damien contracted

leprosy, but he continued to aid the

sick without fail. This saintly

man died on April 15, 1889,

and he was beatified by Pope John

Paul II.

St. Isidore, Farmer (May

15) Isidore was born at

Madrid, Spain, in the latter

half of the 12

th

century.

For most of his life, he was

employed as a laborer on

a farm near the city. Many miracles

occurred during his simple but holy

lifetime, and he was sometimes

assisted in his work by the Angels. He

died about the year 1130, and was

canonized in 1622 by Pope Gregory

XV. Isidore’s wife, Maria Torribia, who

shared in his great care for the poor,

is a Blessed. Her feast takes place on

September 9.

Patron of Farmers

St. Brendan, Abbot of

Clonfert (May 16)

Brendan, who was cared

for during his childhood by

first St. Ita and then St.

Jarlath, was ordained to

the priesthood. He then went on to

live as a monk in an established

community. In later years, Brendan

made a voyage to the Scottish Isles

and to Wales. He founded numerous

monastic communities, including the

one at Clonfert, which grew to hold

about 3000 monks. He formed a Rule

that was said to have been dictated by

an Angel. Bruin died during a visit to

his sister Brig, who was the Abbess of

a community of nuns at Enach Duin.

Patron of Sailors

Protocols for the parking lot Masses, issued by the Diocese of Portland, include:

NIGHT PRAYER ANTIPHONE

Protect us Lord as we stay awake,

Watch over us as we sleep,

That awake we may keep watch with Christ,

And asleep rest in His peace.

GOSPEL MEDITATION - ENCOURAGE DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF SCRIPTURE

Fifth Sunday of Easter

When earthly lives end, especially when the person is younger, we tend to focus upon and consider what was lost. We

think of lost opportunities — things they won’t be able to see, babies they won’t be able to cradle, and adventures that

now must go undiscovered. Our minds create this chasm between earth and heaven that sees the losses of this life as

permanent ones, never possible to achieve again. This perception causes many folks to remain stuck in their grief as

they ponder all of the missed opportunities and regrets.

This is not resurrection thinking. All of the love that we can give and receive, the joy and elation that can be experi-

enced, the adventures that can be undertaken, and the possibilities to be discovered are all part of a continuous

journey. They are not ends in and of themselves but are all part of the unfolding of a relationship we have with God,

who not only makes all of these wonderful things possible now but sustains them and fulfills them into eternity. The

perception and experience of loss is really an illusion, because in God’s eternal kingdom and in God’s time, nothing is

ever lost. Even the most intimate and tender of moments we can conceive of sharing with another human being are

only part of a journey toward perfect intimate and tender moments to be shared with God in our resurrected life. We

become like God and see God as He is in eternity. What greater joy, love, and hope can ever be discovered as we walk

down our often dimly lit paths in this world.

This is an awesome wonder and magnificent news to behold. Call to mind someone you have lost in death. How do

you see them now? How do you see yourself in heaven? Remind yourself, again, that God is the Way, the Truth and

the Life. Our happiness is not going to be fully realized in this world, and there is nothing we can find here that cannot

be found one hundred fold in eternity. It’s all about relationship, and not solely about the relationships we have with

each other, ourselves, and the world in which we live. It’s about our relationship with God. If we realize how special

that one relationship really is, then there is only one particular of heaven and life eternal that really matters: namely,

that we fall into love eternal and discover truth. For when we finally close our eyes in death, then all will be well as

long as we are with God. There are no losses, only gains. ©LPi

Sharing the Gospel

Jesus is getting a place ready for you in heaven. One day you can spend time with Jesus there. You will never get sick.

You will never be sad. You will never be left out. You will be loved because you are God's special child, and he wants to

spend time with you every day.

Prayer: Thank you for promising to make a special place for me in heaven, Jesus.

Something to Draw: Draw a picture of what you think your special place in heaven might look like.

Mission for the Week: Jesus is getting ready for you. Make sure you are getting ready for Jesus. Ask God to help you

grow closer to him every day.

use to deal with the realities of the Covid-19 pandemic, especially when we are struggling or

feel overwhelmed.

PRAY

+Read Pope Francis' special invitation to the faithful to pray the rosary at home in May, trusting that Mary

will help us face pandemic

+ Include a special meditation while you pray the rosary, for example access an audio version of a "Wisdom

of the Saints Rosary"

LEARN

+ Explore some of the frequently asked questions about why the Blessed Virgin Mary is so special to

Catholics.

+ Read Chapter 12 of the U.S. Catholic Catechism for Adults to learn why Mary is "the Church's First

and Most Perfect Member."

+ Teach someone how to pray the rosary because an effective way to deepen one's own understanding is

taking the time to help someone else learn.
