Have a look at the recipe below. It’s one of Mrs. Kyne’s marvellous mixtures!

Pinch of salt

Natural Greek yoghurt

Passata

Grated Mozzarella cheese (or any other cheese you fancy)

Toppings: pepperoni, peppers, mushrooms, sweet corn, ham, whatever you like!

You will need: rolling pin, board, mixing bowl, frying pan, spatula, cheese grater, baking tray or pizza tray

PIZZA’S!Makes 1 pizza base/oven 200 degrees

Ingredients

125g self raising flourPinch of salt125g natural Greek yoghurt Passata Grated mozzarella or cheese of your choicePizza toppings of your choiceDirections

Mix flour, salt, yoghurt in the mixing bowl. It will go quite sticky to start with but keep mixing until you get a dough.

Put the dough onto a board or counter top with a little flour to stop the dough sticking to the board.

Knead the dough for a couple of minutes by pushing it forwards with the palm of your hand, then pulling it backwards.

Once kneaded, put a little more flour on the board and using the rolling pin, roll your dough into a circle shape.

You now need to ask your adult to help you heat the frying pan over a medium heat.

Once it’s warm, use your rolling pin to lift your dough and place it in the frying pan.

Cook for a couple of minutes, then using a spatula, lift and turn the pizza base over and cook for another couple of minutes.

Once cooked, place on the baking tray. Now spread some passata over the top, leaving a little gap around

the edge. Next, sprinkle with the grated cheese.

Now, add the toppings of your choice Put your pizza into the middle of the hot oven for about 10 minutes.

Ask your adult to help you with this. When it’s cooked, ask your adult to help you get it out of the oven

and cut into slices.Now you know I love pizza, and this is my favourite! The base goes nice and crispy when you cook it this way. My favourite toppings are pepperoni, mushrooms and peppers. What are yours? I can’t wait to hear about all the different things you could add.

Read through the recipe with your adult. Can you find all the features of an instructional text?

Can you see how it is different to George’s recipe? George has not used any amounts in his recipe, he says things like ‘100’s and 100’s!

Your task this week is to familiarise yourself with recipes and other types of instructions. You could look at Mrs. Kyne’s recipes on the website and try making some or reading the rules for a game.

Then using your mixtures that you have been making outdoors, say or write (remember that it doesn’t have to be on paper; it could be on a chalk board or whiteboard or using anything else!) a recipe for George, which includes measurements of ingredients as in Mrs. Kyne’s recipes.Try to include some onomatopeia and other poetic devices, like similes that George uses, such as ‘splendid explosion.’

Use the checklist to make sure that your recipe has as much information as Mrs. Kyne’s. Don’t forget the imperative verbs and adverbs!
