Most of the results presented said that the most likely age, gender and any stereotypes related are 15-30 years, male and wearing vintage clothing, not correlating with well known brands besides Converse.

What are the qualities of a person you believe would read an Indie Rock magazine?

Page 4: Primary research evaluation

The majority of my results have suggested that the main image is the most important and most appealing feature on the cover of a magazine. However some of my participants have suggested that the Masthead and the Puff Promotion are the most important so I shall prioritize these as well.

What do you believe is the most key/important feature of a magazine front cover?

Page 5: Primary research evaluation

The majority of the results said that the most appropriate colour scheme was Red and Black and none of the attendants that answered thought that Blue and White was an appropriate colour scheme. Although I shall mainly use the most popular colour scheme as suggested here, I will also find particular pages to incorporate these colours into my format.

What colour scheme do you think an indie rock magazine would have?

Question 3 in Pie chart Format

Responses

Red and BlackBlue and BlackRed and WhiteBlue and White

I think this format of data collection is good as it allows information to be displayed with ease and it still is presentable to a new audience. The data is now visible with the format of a pie chart, we can see that the option ‘Red and Blue’ was the most popular colour scheme as appose to ‘Blue and Black’ and ‘Red and white’.

Page 7: Primary research evaluation

There is no correlation between each of these answers as they all specify different artists and other answers. However the people I questioned who did not leave an answer or an artist from the genre, may not have been within my target audience and this may invalidate my results. Another quality that may invalidate the data is that some people said ‘No’, and this may mean that I am questioning the wrong audience.

Within this genre, which artists would you like to see featured?

Page 8: Primary research evaluation

The majority of my participates said that they would prefer to have free concert tickets rather than other puff promotion tactics. A quality that may invalidate the data is that some people said ‘No’, and this may mean that I am questioning the wrong audience.

Do you believe puff promotions important, if so then what kind do you prefer?

Page 9: Primary research evaluation

In these results 22.22% of my participants decided that the title ‘Full Bar’ was an ideal name and another 22.22% decided that ‘Unplugged’ was an ideal name. these were my two most popular names and because they are, I have decided on ‘Unplugged’, as it is my favorite of the two Mastheads. My other names were less popular and six of my results were not chosen and inconclusive.

Which of the following names do think the magazine should use as a masthead?

This pie chart makes it more obvious that names ‘Full Bar’ and ‘Unplugged’ are the two most popular of the thirteen original names . Some names weren't chosen at all and others were chosen multiple times, this may validate my results more as they are seen as more conclusive. Because the names are exclusive to the genre and are only referred to in the context of guitar musicians, it may make those taking the survey, less likely to select some answers as it alienates them.

Page 11: Primary research evaluation

I personally, like two of my results from this open question: ‘Plug in for the best rock music’ and ‘Hard as Rock’. My other results seemed less conclusive and some of my participants did not answer my question, making it less than conclusive. However I was able to find valid and partially conclusive results. Less people answered the questions this time so this may make this collection of data less valid.

Do you have any ideas for a strap line or slogan for an Indie rock magazine?

Page 12: Primary research evaluation

In this question, my participants majority said that a main stereotypes of the genre were guitars and less known brands of clothing, such as converse, however, vintage style and charity shop finds are also well known stereotypes of the genre that define the dress sense of fans and creators within the genre.

What props, locations or fashion styles do you think should be included in images or promotion?

Page 13: Primary research evaluation

For this question I had no correlation between each answer, however, with the varying answers I have been able to collect a variation of different opinions from participants which may have not been associated with the genre, and may have only been giving less valid opinions throughout this question.

Do you have any ideas for a basic house style for an Indie rock magazine?

Page 14: Primary research evaluation

In these results I found a 33.33% majority in ‘Upcoming events’ as they appear to be the most popular and beneficial as the tickets would usually cost extensive amounts compared to the usual price of tickets.

If there was more than just articles on music, would you like to see news, information on upcoming events, etc?

The majority of my participants have confirmed their ages, 11-16 years. This information may act as a bias for the majority of my answers to my questionnaire. One individual confirmed themselves as 21 or older (21 years +) so thismay act as a ‘counter balance’ to the majority.

There are two joint majorities: £2 & £3. These outweigh the other results which were less popular. I now know what price to use with my magazine as it has been presented by my participants.

The Two majorities were: Red and Black & Blue and Black. I will use Red and Black as my main colour scheme as it captivates the style of Indie Rock and is generally more appealing than Blue and Black.
