Unbelievably we have reached the end of the first half of summer term. We have set a small amount of learning for the May half term break, similar to the amount we would normally set, but feel that it is important that both the staff and students get to enjoy some down time and have a break. We will resume the weekly online learning after the break on Monday 1st June.

We have also made the decision to close the school completely for all students over the coming week to allow for a deep clean in preparation for welcoming back our Reception and Year 1 pupils and the pupils that will continue to attend our Community Classrooms.

Thank you to the Year 1 and Reception parents and carers for responding to our attendance audit so promptly, this has enabled us to make the correct staffing preparations and getting the correct number of resources ready for those returning and to ensure we continue to make provision for those pupils that will remain at home. I fully understand that there are anxious families who are unsure about sending their child back to school, but I can assure you that we have been working incredibly hard to meet all required guidelines and appreciate that some families may wish to change their mind after a week or two of opening, which is completely fine. We will remain in touch with families for the continuation of the term and are always available for you to ask us questions and discuss any concerns you have.

A letter has been emailed out to our Reception and Year 1 families explaining the measures that we have put in place as a school and to also advise you as parents/carers of the changes that you will need make to support us with from home. The link to this is also here: PRIMARY PARENT HANDBOOK-PHASED RE-OPENING JUNE-SEPT

Importantly there will be two full training days for all our staff on Monday 1st June & Tuesday 2nd June which will mean that school will be closed to all students on those days, including Community Classrooms. A phased return will take place starting with Year 1 and Community Classrooms opening on Wednesday 3rd June, emails will be sent to families of their staggered start of day and end of day times. Reception pupils will begin to attend on Thursday 4th June, again emails will be sent home advising you of your start and finish times. Going forward school will be open for full days on Monday – Thursday (times

will depend on staggered starts and end of day) for Reception and Year 1 pupils, school will close at 12.00pm on Fridays to allow staff time to plan and prepare for the following week.

Community Classrooms will remain open every day from 8.30pm – 3.30pm Monday to Friday.

I would like thank the INA team for their incredible hard work this half term. I have received lots of lovely emails from parents to say thank you for the provision and care the staff have continued to provide in the last few months and I couldn’t agree more. We have also continued to keep our Community Classroom open every day to provide supervision, food and support the children on site.

On behalf of all the Primary staff we would also like to thank parents and carers for your tremendous support with the home learning and take this opportunity to wish you all a restful and safe break, and happy Eid Mubarak to those celebrating.

Our BRIDGES focus for the week after half term is ‘Discovery’ which comprises of seven dispositions: energy and enthusiasm, noticing, open-mindedness and curiosity, imagining and creativity.

The words that resonate most right now are around energy and enthusiasm. It is very hard sometimes to stay motivated in the current climate and I have been super impressed that so many of our young people are so enthusiastic about their learning and by how much energy they apply to it every day. I’ve hugely impressed by the members of staff who have told me about their daily runs etc. and how they are using the energy they would normally use up in school to do other things and keep themselves active. This is very important.

I have also enjoyed seeing the imagination and creativity lots of our students have used when finding different ways to learn at home and some of the fantastic science experiments that took place last week. Next half term will see the start of new topics, so I hope you will enjoy using your discovery skills to learn more and continuing to finding out new facts and ways of doing things!

On behalf of all the Primary staff we would like to thank you for your continued support!

Thank you all so much for your amazing science week entries! We had such a great time looking at the pictures of your experiments and very much enjoyed watching the videos, too! It is clear to see that there was some incredible science learning going on in so many homes last week. As ever, it was incredibly difficult to pick

the competition winners, and everyone who sent in an entry should be incredibly proud of themselves. After some long and difficult deliberation, we managed to

choose 8 winning entries. Congratulations to the following children:

Jairaj (Curie) and Avneet Chaggar (Rahman)Qasim Hussain (Glennie)

Taranveer (Fitzgerald) and Navneet Matharu (Lovelace)Uzair Ahmed (Al-Kashi)

Maira Naziri (Nicks)Zara Daykin (Lovelace)

Well done everyone! Your prizes have been ordered and we will endeavour to get those to you as soon as possible!

Once again, thank you to everyone for submitting such wonderful entries, and a special thank you to parents/carers for supporting at home! We hope that you all

had a wonderful science week!

THE GOLDEN TOUCHFar away, in the forest

They were celebrating an occasion,In an ancient, exquisite, embellished mansion,

There was a place in the party that was enchanted,Where all your wishes were granted.

Far away, in the forest

This place was just like a paradise,And it also had a hidden surprise,They finally revealed the surprise:

“What was it?” we asked It was The Golden Touch

Far away, in the forest

All of a sudden, they heard a voice,“Does anyone want a gift of choice?”

They told their wish and their hands turned cold,And whatever they touched turned into gold.

Far away, in the forest

Mistakenly, the group touched themselves and turned themselves into gold,

And just like the hands, their bodies became cold. There was nothing for them to do,But to stand still as a gold statue.

What have the staff been up to…?

Mr Marshall Jones has been incredibly busy helping us get ready to open the school again after half term but has also been doing a superb job of helping his daughter with her learning at home too and supporting her with her reading.

Ms Howard has been making what she describes as ‘some very inconsistently decorated cupcakes’. Her hamster Phoebe has been getting pretty heavily involved in tier word planning this week too!

Ms Gilley has been busy upcycling an old mirror, trying her hand at some painting, going on forest walks and a bit of gardening.

Ms Bhatti has thoroughly enjoyed continuing with her passion of baking and create exciting savoury snacks such as: baklava, banana and walnut cake, biscotti, buffalo wings, cinnamon rolls, vanilla sponge and vanilla sponge cupcakes & Jalebi (the orange sweet dish).

While at home, Ms Jeremy has been: looking after the Rahman Class fish, growing a lemon tree and reading (of course!)

BRIDGES in the Primary Phase“We build too many walls and not enough bridges.”

Isaac Newton

BRIDGES are habits of mind or learning characteristics that develop a pupil's character and learning power and enable him/her to grow into a well-rounded individual and resilient learner.

There are seven BRIDGES habits that we will be working on, which will rotate on a weekly cycle throughout the year. The BRIDGES habit of the week will always be in-troduced at the beginning of the week during the Monday assembly and reinforced throughout the week across the curriculum. Each class teacher will award a certifi-cate to a pupil that they feel has demonstrated the BRIDGES focus for the week.

Each week we will update you on the BRIDGES habit that will be introduced in the coming week and offer some top tips on how to reinforce the habit at home too. Please also refer to the Primary BRIDGES wheel below.

At School • We make our lessons as fun and interactive every day so that every child loves

learning and have a sense of enthusiasm with everything they do. Our lessons are very hands on and we ask the children to share their learning with the ‘talk partners’.

• We talk to the children about looking out for the details on things around them, to look closely at the bugs and the leaves in the playground and what happens to everything as the seasons change. We encourage the children to check their work and try to spot any errors they may have made.

• Through our topic approach we engender a sense of curiosity and wonder in the children where they are keen to go home and find out more. We talk about human characteristics and traits and what makes us all the same but equally what makes us different and that it is good to have differences and to appreciate them with an open mind.

• Every area of the curriculum helps the children to become more creative –either through role-play, stories, music and PE – helping the children to use their imaginations.

At Home• Encourage your child to use their imagination by making up stories together, or

suggesting ways in which they could change parts of a story they know well, either change the gender of the characters, have them go on a different adventure etc. Pupils love to role play different characters and it is often even more fun when the adults join in too. Play along and have fun!

• Play games with your child like ‘I spy’ where you can see how many things they can notice beginning with a certain sound or letter they may already know or ask your child to think about an object and describe it using powerful adjectives. Ask questions like ‘I wonder what would happen if…?’ or ‘what do you think might happen if?’ or ‘why do you think…? These types of deeper questions will encourage the children to use their creativity and imagination more fully.

• Either independently or with help, encourage your child to read or research more information around the topics they have been studying in class. The children could also spend time researching our current composer.

Safeguarding ChildrenAs part of their curriculum, the children learn how to keep themselves safe. The following website has been set up by the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) to offer parents and schools advice on how to raise safeguarding awareness with children. There is a notable section called ‘The Underwear Rule’ which is of particular support and guidance to parents. The website also offers advice regarding ‘online safety’ and how to obtain support or advice regarding the safeguarding of children.
