Welcome back to Term 3 at Ashford Central School. Our staff have spent Monday this
week at school establishing what school excellence looks like at ACS. We have discussed
Aboriginal Educa on, mandatory training, Workplace Health and Safety, learning support
processes in the school and what our goals are for the remainder of the 2017 school year.
The school will contact you soon about a ending an interview about your child’s
Personalised Learning Plan (PLP). The PLP document is collabora vely developed and
priori ses one literacy, one numeracy and one socio‐emo onal goal for your child. This
process works as follows:
1. The classroom teacher analyses the academic and socio‐emo onal progress of your
child.
2. The teacher then priori ses a dra goal for each of the areas (Literacy, Numeracy
and Socio‐emo onal Wellbeing).
3. The plan is then dra ed to include ideas for: Programming and Implementa on
Requirements, Evalua on Strategies, Accommoda ons and Adjustments, Personnel
Involved (Including the parent/caregivers) and a Time Frame.
4. A PLP mee ng is then organised with you to view the dra plan, and establish any
changes or addi onal input to the proposed plan.
5. The final plan is then signed and the responsibili es agreed to between the school,
the student, and the parents/caregivers are undertaken.
6. A termly mee ng is offered to parents/caregivers around adjustments and progress
against the plan.

Ashford Central School – School Planning Commi ee
The school is seeking members of the community (both with and/or
without students at the school) to introduce a School Planning
Commi ee (SPC). The SPC will meet every five weeks to track and
discuss the progress of the school against the targets set for 2017.
Throughout this year, I will work very closely with this commi ee to
formulate the strategic direc ons and work streams for the next
three‐year planning cycle. The authen c and efficient func oning of
the SPC is essen al to the comprehensive success of the school.
Currently, we have had three members of the school community
volunteer their me in being a part of the SPC. If you have an interest
in being a part of this ini a ve, please contact the school.
The first SPC mee ng for this term will be on Thursday 25th May, at
3pm in the Library.
Covered Walkway Progress
The Department has been in contact regarding the covered walkway
and path from the toilets to the COLA. The following is the plan for
your informa on and a tendering process will now ensue. The
walkway will be 2.6m wide and ensure that students can move to the
COLA in wet weather and remain dry.

Premier’s Reading Challenge of 2017 Off to a Great Start
Congratula ons to all the Primary School students who have enrolled in this year’s chal‐
lenge.
Miss Whi aker and Mrs Sweeney have been reading PRC picture books to the
K/1 class and as a result, that class has nearly finished their required reading.
Year 1/2 have been reading Roald Dahl’s ‘The Twits’ in class and
adding to their ‘challenge’ reading also. This class is progressing
well.
During Library lessons Year 3/4 have been studying ‘Danny the Champion of
the World’, another Roald Dahl novel. They too are progressing in their PRC.
And finally Year 5/6 have been studying the old favourite ‘Charlie and the
Chocolate Factory’. Three students in this class have just completed the
2017 Reading Challenge. Congratula ons go to Demi Istratoaie (Yr 5), Rohan
Guest (Yr 6) and Naomi Istratoaie (Yr 6). A few others in this class are hot on
their heels.
Everyone please keep reading over the holidays. Let us see if Ashford Central can break
their record of successful readers this year.

Closure of the Ashford Lions Club Due to the exodus of members from the Ashford Lions Club, it is with regret that I inform the community
of Ashford that the Club is in danger of closing.
With the recent resigna on of a stalwart member, Lioness Helen Hilton, a large hole has been le in the
memberships.
The flow on effect to the Ashford community is as follows:
1. The loss of the Ashford Leos Club. Who will mentor these bright young adults and explain why they
can no longer be apart of a great organisa on such as leos?
2. There will be no junior ci zen of the year.
3. The driver reviver sta on in Ashford will be closed.
4. There will no longer be annual dona ons to other Ashford organisa ons at the Annual Lions Club
Change over.
5. There will be no one to man the gates or run the BBQ at the Ashford Annual Show.
6. Most importantly, it is another loss to the Ashford community to lose a Club that offers an oppor‐
tunity for everyone to come together for fellowship.
I wish to thank Lioness Helen for her efforts to be er the Ashford community for all of us and wish her
health and happiness in the future.
If you wish to make a difference and contribute to our community, please join Lions. If you are interested,
please contact me below:
With a heavy heart.
