ATTENDANCE

School attendance is very important. Please make it a priority to bring your child to

school everyday, on time. Each class period provides 45-minutes of instruction. Thus, we

have precious few moments throughout the year to ensure that your child is mastering

grade-level content, and is prepared for the next grade-level. Per our attendance poli-

cy, procedures are in place to deter excessive tardies and absences; beginning with

warnings and ending with Saturday School and/or In-School-Suspension. Should attend-

ance issues persist, truancy may be filed with the courts, per our district attendance poli-

cy. The tardy bell rings each morning at 8:00 a.m. / school is dismissed at 3:35.

Thank you for your partnership!

Cell Phones at TJH

We do not allow student cell phone use in the classroom. Students

are not to have the devices on their person (in pockets, bags, etc.)

while in the classroom, unless specifically instructed to do so by their

teacher. When not used as instructional tools, cell phones represent a

great distraction in the classroom. We are by no means opposed to

the use of technology in education, and have many plans to expand

the use of instructional technology, but rather believe that the stu-

dents must be given parameters of use. Students may store their cell phones in their

lockers and can openly check them during Activity Period, passing periods, and lunch.

Cell phones found during class time will be collected. Per the handbook, the students

will be assessed a $15 fee for the return of their phone (Student Handbook, p. 52).

Hood County Christmas for Children Applications are

available in our office (hard copies) . They will

be due by November 3rd.

TJH Counselor’s Corner

Mrs. Jill Griffith

For the last week of September, we will discuss

cyber safety and bullying with seventh graders during

activity period. This is a very serious topic and we need

parents to continue these conversations at home. Re-

search tells us when these messages are reinforced by

parents, students are more likely to “buy-in!”

Next month we will learn about trustworthiness.

October 23-31st is Red Ribbon Week and Trooper Dub

Gillum will be here to present students with the first of

four drug prevention/awareness programs.

As always, I would encourage you to look at my web

-page under TJH counselor. There are many resources

available for parents and students. Some of these in-

clude: Tolar Community Resource Guide, information on

bullying and prevention, and a link to my college and ca-

reer information website for students and parents. It is

never too early to think about your student’s future af-

ter high school.

**As always**If you are concerned about anything going on with your child at home or at school, and think the school should be made aware; please let us know so we can better serve you, your child and the school!
