Stories of change & Empowerment
And from there his journey continued. After completing his secondary education,
parents started expecting from Hari a decent job to support 8 members of his joint
family. Growing age and concerned health of parents compelled Hari to hunt for a job.
But unacceptance and insensitivity towards disability were leading Hari to a way where
rejection and depression were surrounding him in every curve.
But, parents blessing and constant efforts of Hari paved his way to NSDC supported
Sarthak Kaushal Vikas Kendra in Jaipur. And, from there, Hari’s journey of inclusion
begins. A sign language interpreter and a dedicated team of 5 members started to carve
the skills of Hari through 3 months of retail-specific skill building training program.
After 2.5 months, hari was all prepared to face the corporate world with command over
Indian sign language and computer skills. During placement drive, his skill was
recognized by Sarthak equal opportunity employer Vishal Mega Mart and immediate
hiring was done for the profile of Customer sales executive.
Today Hari , with every hearing impaired candidate shares “Life is all about struggle.
struggle of working on your own capabilities, struggle for better future and struggle
against all that odds that helps to bring out best out of us.”
Rural areas in India strive with stereotypes
and lack of awareness when it comes to
disability. Raising a child with special needs
is still a challenge for a breadwinner in a
village like Dausa.
Hari Om Saini is a resident of the same
village and was born with hearing
impairment. Lack of education and
awareness resulted into lot of struggles in
completing his education. But his mothers’
continued efforts and fight for his son’s
education leads Hari to the doors of Mook
Badhir Vidya Peeth, Dausa, his first school.

Stories of change & Empowerment
But intermediate qualification, limited skills, and 90% disability was not a good
combination for corporate houses. This picture was getting clear to Shivam with every
rejection. And, soon he realized the need of furnished skills. Now, instead of searching
for jobs he started to search for a training course which he can sponsor for himself.
Someone truly said, where there is a will there’s a way.
His search was ended when for the first time helpdesk executive from TMF supported
Sarthak Smart+ Chandigarh center interacted with him and introduced him about free
of cost training program to persons with disabilities. He took no time to visit the center
and under training program in depth. Looking to his passion, the Sarthak Chandigarh
team was all geared up for furnishing his skills and providing him an opportunity hi
wished for. His interest in computer skills leads his admission to IT sector-specific
training where he learned about technology in depth. His passion and interest for self-
employment embarked on his journey towards empowerment and soon after
completing his skill-building program he started teaching students of the primary and
secondary level and enters into the world of financial independence.
Another story of empowerment, change,
and self-employment. Shivam an
orthopedically handicapped candidate is a
resident of Pratapgarh and lives in a family
of 6. His Father is a gardener and the only
breadwinner of his family. Shivam has
completed his 12th from CBSE school and
then later dropped his studies due to the
financial crisis. Immediately after
completion of his studies, he started
searching for a job as he always desires to
support his father.

Messages by Changemakers “ I am very pleased to work with PwDs . They are very punctual, dedicated,
hard working and never give up guys. While working with them I feel
motivated. They love everything about their job, look forward to coming to work
and truly defines what it is to provide genuine and sincere customer service. My
only regret in hiring an individual with a perceived disability is that I did not do
it many years ago. In my opinion Its is not a disability, it actually gives them a
unique ability to connect with guests”.
