From our earliest years, PRG has been committed to product innovation. We have over 100 issued patents and a similar number of pending applications. In 1988, we introduced our Stage Command® motion control system on Phantom of the Opera, ushering in the mod-ern era of stage automation. Over the years, PRG has strengthened and deepened its R&D efforts. VLPS Lighting Services joined PRG in 2004, bringing us the Emmy® award-winning team that invented the Vari*Lite® automated luminaire, an innovation that revolutionized the entertainment lighting industry.

In 2008, PRG debuted Bad Boy®, our large-venue automated luminaire. It was one of the most rapidly adopted luminaires in industry history, almost immediately being specified by top designers of concerts, special events, and television. Also in 2008, our proprietary V676® lighting control console debuted. It is the console of choice for major televised sporting events, award shows, and productions with large amounts of automated lighting.

The PRG Technology Development Group (TDG) has continued to innovate automated lumi-naire designs with the introduction of the Best Boy 4000 Spot in 2011 a designer’s multi-tool with both shutter and an iris as standard and an innovative color correction system for TV designers.

Nocturne Productions joined PRG in 2011, which expanded our video R&D capabilities as well as our proprietary LED product offerings. PRG was proud to join forces with the devel-opment team behind the most widely used and respected video products in the industry, including the V-9 Lite, the V-9, and the V-18 panels. In 2014, PRG Nocturne created the innovative V-Thru LED panels with high transparency for true video scrim effects.

Also introduced in 2014 was the Best Boy Wash that offers an astounding 60,000 lumens of output, a large 6:1 zoom range, and a full range of colors and color correction filters. Designers pair the Best Boy Wash with the Best Boy Spot for their design work.

PRG works with designers, programmers, and technicians and takes their feedback and re-quests for tools to solve production challenges. The Series 400 Power and Data Distribution System, which provides a powerful solid network backbone for large and complex systems and the Bad Boy Followspot Controller, which allows a Bad Boy or Best Boy automated light to be used as a powerful, yet compact truss spot are two tools that PRG TDG devel-oped to help solve these issues.

PRG’s TDG also extends to working with strategic manufacturing partners to help develop and refine technology and equipment option that meet the needs of specific markets and expand the standards of reliability. PRG excels at combining market expertise, state-of-the-art equipment, and in-house engineering and manufacturing to provide creative solutions for our clients; allowing them to work smarter.
