A Winning TraditionThe Such family has won the contest two years in a row now. When asked, “Why do you work so hard to sell the Blue Books?” Here’s some of the reasons they gave:

Mrs. Such used to sell them when she went to Park! Her brother won the contest years back, so that helps the kids think it must be a family thing to want to win. They LOVE competing (mostly against themselves!) AND winning :). She (not Ryan!) enjoys taking the kids. She sits in the car and reads as they go door to door. She likes how it forces their kids to give a spiel to someone and to look them in the eye. They think it’s a huge blessing to help raise money to help more kids attend PCS.They like the challenge of seeing how much they can raise for Park per hour. This was the family’s busiest year in Such family history, but because they accidentally received 120 books instead of 60, it motivated them to sell them. Bottom line; because it is a challenge and they love to compete, and in the words of Mrs. Such, mom of super sellers Alex, Ellie, and Brevin, “We love PCS!!! And we want everyone who wants to attend PCS to have the opportunity to attend!” Fall Congress

Sarah Herlihy earned Outstanding Speaker Award for House 2 at the National Speech and Debate Association (formerly NFL) held at Brainerd High School. The Outstanding rank is the highest level awarded to speakers. The Fall Congress was held October 3-4, 2014. Congratulations Sarah!

Why Spiritual Emphasis Week?Jesus Christ is emphasized every day at Park Christian School. However, once a year an entire week is set aside as a Spiritual Emphasis Week.

The week is filled with increased, intentional opportunities for spiritual growth and service.

John and Diane Windle, from Wisconsin, shared their musical, speaking, and puppetry gifts with the elementary students during chapels each morning. They also interacted in the classrooms. The students were engaged, challenged, and entertained all week.

The balance of biblical instruction and humor had many students wanting chapels to be longer each day! The variety of service projects on Wednesday gave the students an opportunity to put their faith into action through projects and serving around the school.

Lowell Hochhalter, from Montana and a college classmate of President Hannestad, challenged the 7-12th grade students every morning.

He also shared in numerous classrooms and challenged to the students to live out their faith.

He and his wife are missionaries with FREE International, a ministry that seeks to free children from human trafficking. His stories brought awareness to a terrible reality in our country and in our local area.

The service projects on Wednesday also gave the students a chance to serve in the community, at food shelves, raking yards, and praying at the Women’s Health Clinic in downtown Fargo.

Praise the Lord for His work in all of the students’ lives. What a privilege to serve at a school that makes this kind of commitment to spiritual growth opportunities for the students!

3Fall Sportsby Kaylee Schultz Fall sports are quickly coming to an end, and our Falcon athletes have a lot to say about their season! Senior Anica Sawchuk and Junior Jacob Strinden, cross country runners, love cross country because they are able to run with some really awesome people and stay in great shape! “Cross country is more of a team sport than people realize,” says Sawchuk. “It’s fun to hang out with the team and encourage them.”Cole Satrom, a tennis player for the Shanley/Oak Grove/Park Christian men’s tennis team, loves the camaraderie of the sport, and meeting new friends outside of Park. Kai Nellermoe decided to go out for soccer this year because he loves it and has been playing since he was five. Injury prevented him from playing football, so the hardest part of the season was not being with the guys on the football team. Nellermoe said about soccer, “It is a good experience and you should do it!”Kenneth Griffis, senior football player, loves the brotherhood on the team. “I like the unity. We come together as brothers and everybody has each other’s back.”Olivia Thimjon, a senior and captain on the volleyball team, says, “Being a part of a team is one of the best thing you can do. You learn so many life lessons through sports.”Congratulations to our Park Christian athletes on a successful season!

Hazel StrikerHazel Striker, 2nd grade student in Mrs. Volla’s class, was awarded 1st place for PCS in the Moorhead Elementary School Fire Safety artwork competition. She received a ribbon, her artwork was framed, and it will be entered into the next level of competition. Good luck Hazel!

Multi Piano Festival ConcertOn October 12, several Park students participated in a community Multi Piano Festival Concert. These students had to pass an audition to be a part of the concert. The students were: Ellie Rogness, Ryan and Eden Legatt, Leah Jost, Keziah Quanbeck, Tessa Hultin, and Sarah Herlihy. Performing in the concert with the students were four of the composers of the duets that were played.

PCS is pleased to partner with seven Member Churches: Bethel, Calvary Church at Village Green (New Member Church), First Assembly, Metropolitan Baptist, River Valley, Salem Evangelical Free, and Triumph Lutheran Brethren.

PCS Story to Make You SMILE!7th graders raked PCS neighbors’ lawns for their service project the Wednesday of Spiritual Emphasis Week. One elderly couple wrote a thank you note, came over and told us their story, and gave the whole 7th grade class candy to thank them. Here is the story they shared:Her husband has diabetes and his feet hurt so he cannot do the outdoor work. She has been dreading raking the leaves. On her way home Wed., she was trying to figure out how she was going to deal with the leaves. Upon arriving home, she saw a note from PCS asking if students could rake her leaves! She was absolutely blessed beyond words and so thankful for our kids’ cheerful service to our neighborhood. See picture on back page.

Mr. Randy SchauerMr. Schauer has been teaching at Park Christian for 32 years. He has taught Physical Education, been the Athletic Director and Bus Coordinator, and coached many sports. He is completing a Master’s degree in Athletic Administration from Ohio University and will finish in December with a GPA of 3.74. He also has a teaching and coaching degree from NDSU.Tell us a little about your family:I am married to Caroline and we have three children; Alexis is finishing her BSN nursing degree at NDSU and will graduate in December. She is a LPN nurse at Eventide. Amber is in her third year a NDSU and is pursuing Pharmacy. Everett is a junior at PCS.What do you love most about teaching? I like to find ways to give kids success. I also want them to learn to love Jesus and be able to carry on a daily rolling conversation with Him as their Friend and Savior. What do you like to do in your spare time? I like spending time on little vacations with Caroline, watching NDSU football and the Boston Red Sox, and drawing up basketball plays and talking basketball with my brother Jody. What are some favorite memories of Park Christian School? Watching Park Christian School grow as many people were in constant prayer for our school. Having our family grow up with Park Christian from kindergarten through graduation has also been special. Coaching Everett and watching the girls activities has been priceless. Special bus trips with Paul Astrup were special times of growth and mentoring. Favorite Verse: I Peter 5:6-7 Humble yourself, therefore, under God’s mighty, that He may lift you up in due time. Casting all your cares(anxiety) on Him because He cares for you.

I have always been appreciative of those who had a vision to start Park Christian School. I have always held high the sacrifices of those who carried the burden in the past and for all families who have and continue to pay tuition. But my appreciation reached entirely new levels due to the Homecoming Brunch on October 11, 2014. We had the privilege to honor Pastor Dan Rothwell and Dr. Gerald McDermott, the two men God used to birth Park Christian School. We also honored the Paul Korsmo family and Alton and Alyce Peterson for their sacrificial giving and dedicated prayer support of the school. These four individuals or families were the inaugural recipients of the Pillars of Park awards. Their moving acceptance speeches and their exemplary humility catapulted my appreciation for God’s work through them to previously

Spiritual Emphasis Week at PCS had lots of highlights! Puppets, Bible curriculum, prayer times, guest speakers, testimonies, and service projects. As a part of the week, Mr. Nellermoe and Mrs. Messelt visited each elementary classroom and presented an opportunity for students to trust Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. Thirteen elementary students prayed to trust Jesus Christ as their Savior!

THIRTY THREE SIGNIFICANT DECISIONS FOR CHRISTDuring the Jr. and Sr. high chapels, Lowell Hochhalter also gave an opportunity to the students to outwardly declare their decision to follow Jesus. At least twenty Jr/Sr high students indicated that they made a significant decision for Christ. In total, that is thirty-three significant decisions for Christ during Spiritual Emphasis Week! unrealized levels. I don’t think there was a dry eye in the Fine Arts room that day as each one shared about God’s faithfulness and provision.

While the brunch made me more thankful for the past it also fanned the flame of passion I have for the future. I believe God desires to use Park Christian School to equip many more students to think biblically, live wisely, and serve faithfully.Since this is the month of the holiday we call Thanksgiving, let’s all make a concentrated effort to be thankful. Take time to stop and think. Don’t wait

until something or someone is gone before you realize how thankful you were for them. Realize it now. Let’s all be thankful, not thankpartial (I know it’s not a word, but let’s not let it become one in our lives).
