INJUNCTION-JUNCTION WHAT’S YOUR FUNCTION? In 2008, a Superior Court judge approved an injunction making it illegal

for 226 alleged members of the gangs to associate in certain areas of San Clemente and San Juan Capistrano.

Do not associate with known gang members Do not intimidate/fight Do not block free passage Do not show gang hand signs Do not dress in gang attire Stay away from burglary tools Obey curfew

GANG REDUCTION AND INTERVENTION PARTNERSHIP (GRIP)

• Administered through the Orange County District Attorney’s office

• comprised of Sheriff’s personnel, school officials, and other agencies

• The focus of GRIP is to • Prevent truancy and curfew violations• Address gang issues with students and parents • Provide mentorships • Educate school faculty

CHICAS IN THE VARRIO (CV) PROGRAM• Afterschool program for young girls aged 12-18 years old• Available at all middle schools and high schools in the San

Juan Capistrano/San Clemente area• Meet twice a week from 3:00pm until 5:00pm• Targets Hispanic girls

CHICAS IN THE VARRIO (CV) PROGRAM Provide role-models- Teachers, members of the

community, etc. Focus on empowerment- Girls have more power than

they think Focus on family involvement/participation Assist with academics Discuss issues of sex and pregnancy Discuss issues of abuse Assist with employment acquisition Create strong friendships

AS A SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST…

Decrease in gang activity on school grounds Increased academic performance Increased self esteem Stronger families and communities Break the vicious cycle
