Preventing Injuries and promoting Health
I can make choices that prevent (lower the risk) injuries and improve
experiences.
Review
• Benefits are the ‘good’ stuff that happens due to choices.
• Risks are those choices that could lead to either reward (benefits) or loss (injuries/health).
Risks to Exercise
• There are a lot of rewards to exercising but there are also some risks to being ACTIVE.
• Injuries• R-est• I-ce• C-ompression• E-levation
Risks to Eating
• If I continue eating the processed and high sugar foods now…. Am I prepared to live with the risks to my health later in the future?
Today
• Choose behaviors that promote and advance life. Not just your own, but others’ lives as well.
• See the value in Healthy experiences.
Values
• Numbers and weight (how many and how much)
• Benefits to going to Honduras: Helping 2000 people with medical care. Experiencing a new culture. Being with like-minded people. New friendships. Getting closer to God.
• Risks: Disease, bodily harm, death, kidnapping, theft, plane crash.

• For the next 3 minutes, GIVE MODERATE TO VIGOUROUS EFFORT to ACHIEVE TARGET HEART RATE (22-30 OR 31-35) to lower the risk of heart disease.

• Exercising can lead to possible injuries but can benefit a person (physically, socially, mentally, and emotionally).
