Why is it Irregular?• Some verbs are spelled differently

in the past tense in order to maintain their pronunciation.

• Example:

– Buscar: c to qu • Buscé---Incorrect (loses the

hard c sound)• Busqué---Correct (maintains

a form of the c sound)

The Irregulars-In the preterite, verbs that end in –car,-gar,-zar

are spelled differently in the yoyo form in order to maintain pronunciation.
