PSL was one of the six small and medium sized companies to achieve the double recognition. It was 17 years ago when PSL won the Queen’s Award for Export Achievement and these new awards confirm PSL’s international strategy as sustainable and successful. Winning a Queen’s Award for Enterprise is a huge achievement for a business – particularly in a special year, as we celebrate H.M. The Queen’s 90 th birthday. “The Award is a prestigious honour for a company to receive and demonstrates what an enterprising nation we are. As  well  as  guests  from  the  Liverpool  City  Council,  Mayors  Office  and  Department  for  International  Trade,  PSL  were  joined  by  Member  of  Parliament,  Maria  Eagle.  In  2015,  PSL  was  chosen  to  be  the  Export  ‘Champion’  of  its  constituency  for  the  Export  By  Britain  campaign  run  by  Maria  Eagle,  MP  for  Garston  and  Halewood.    

 Guests  arrived  at  PSL’s  UK  headquarters  in  Speke,  Liverpool  to  be  greeted  by  MD  Amanda  Gowans,  Directors  and  key  managers.    Her  Majesty’s  Lord-­‐Lieutenant  and  other  guests  were  then  escorted  around  the  facility  to  meet  with  other  employees  and  for  a  tour  of  the  factory.    The  proceedings  lead  to  a  presentation  of  the  two  Rose  Bowls  and  a  reading  of  the  official  Scroll  of  Association.  PSL  will  have  the  honour  of  representing  British  manufacturing  with  the  Royal  mark  for  5  years,  until  April  2021.    

   The  Ceremony  follows  a  Royal  Reception  for  the  announcement  of  the  awards  at  Buckingham  Palace  in  July.  PSL  employees  travelled  to  London  and  attended  a  ceremony  held  at  the  Palace  where  they  were  honoured  by  a  meeting  with  H.M.  The  Queen.

“Looking  to  the  future  –  at  PSL  we  never  stand  still.  We  pride  ourselves  on  being  inventors  of  new  technology  and  unique  ways  of  doing  things  to  continue  contributing  to  global  pharmaceutical  innovation.”    Amanda  Gowans,  PSL  Managing  Director      Group  expands  to  include  new  structure  As  part  of  the  organisation’s  continued  growth  PSL  are  delighted  to  announce  the  formation  of  a  group  of  process  development  companies  that  includes  Powder  Systems  Limited  and  the  new  pioneering  facility  C.O.P.E.  Inc.    The  new  group  structure,  Powder  Systems  Group,  is  the  parent  organisation  for  both  PSL  and  the  new  C.O.P.E.  (Center  of  Process  Excellence).  This  provides  a  wider  range  of  services  for  process  development  to  the  pharmaceutical  industry.      C.O.P.E.  is  a  new  state  of  the  art  Center  of  Process  Excellence,  which  has  been  set-­‐up  in  Broomall,  Pennsylvania,  USA.  The  primary  function  of  the  facility  is  progressing  process  development  and  scale-­‐up.  Key  areas  of  focus  are  microsphere  processing,  API  development,  filtration  trials  and  scale  up,  milling  trials,  powder  property  testing,  qualification  batches  and  consultation  services.      The  formation  of  C.O.P.E.  Inc.  represents  a  new  pioneering  offering  of  drug  development  and  process  from  the  frontend  of  molecule  formulation  to  the  provision  of  full  process  hardware.  

The  first  trials  have  been  conducted  at  the  new  Center  with  positive  results  and  feedback.  The  Center  allows  a  synergy  with  PSL’s  process  engineering  to  develop  the  drugs  of  tomorrow.

Her  Majesty's  Lord-­‐Lieutenants  are  the  representatives  of  the  Crown  for  each  county  in  the  United  Kingdom.    There  are  98  Lord-­‐Lieutenants,  who  cover  all  areas  of  the  UK.  Lord-­‐Lieutenants  in  each  County  are  men  or  women  of  all  backgrounds  who  are  appointed  by  The  Queen  on  the  advice  of  the  Prime  Minister.    Here  in  Merseyside  the  Lord-­‐Lieutenant  is  Dame  Lorna  Muirhead  DBE,  appointed  Lord-­‐Lieutenant  of  Merseyside  in  2006.      The  Office  of  High  Sheriff  is  an  independent,  non-­‐political  Royal  appointment  for  a  single  year.    The  origins  of  the  Office  date  back  to  Saxon  times,  when  the  'Shire  Reeve'  was  responsible  to  the  King  for  the  maintenance  of  law  and  order  within  the  Shire,  or  County  and  for  the  collection  and  return  of  taxes  due  to  the  Crown.    The  current  High  Sheriff  of  Merseyside  is  James  Davies  OBE  whose  period  of  office  began  in  April  2016  and  lasts  for  one  year.    He  became  a  Deputy  Lieutenant  in  2010.  In  terms  of  protocol,  the  High  Sheriff  comes  next  in  precedence  after  the  Lord-­‐Lieutenant.
