Subject: Heat Wave Conditions During 27th to 28th May 2020 and Thunderstorm

activity during 28th to 30th May 2020.

Heat wave conditions are prevailing in parts of Punjab and Haryana during past 48

hrs with district in Western Punjab, Southern and South Western Haryana viz

Bathinda, Mukatsar, Faridkot, Fazilika, Sirsa and Narnaul recorded maximum

temperatures around 45-46˚C during past 48 hrs. Highest Maximum temprtaure in

the region was 48˚C recorded at Hisar, which is highest since 1998 at the station.

These conditions are likely to continue during next 24-36 hrs with intense heat wave

conditions in southwestern parts of Punjab, Southern and South western parts of

Haryana. Latest weather conditions indicates that there will be respite from

prevailing heat wave conditions due to approach of another active western

disturbance supported by moisture flow from Bay of Bengal and Arabian Seas leading

to light to moderate rainfall ( 2-4 cm, exceeding at a time) commencing from

northeastern parts of Punjab and Northern parts of Haryana viz

Nawanshahar,Jalandhar ,Hoshiarpur, Roopnagar, Yamunagar, Ambala, Panchkula,

Chandigarh etc from afternoon /evening of 28th May 2020 and increase in intensity

and spread on 29th and 30th May covering almost all parts of Punjab, Haryana

including Chandigarh. Said spell is very likely to accompanied with thunderstorm/

strong winds with wind speed of the order 50-60 kmph exceeding at a time in some

parts of both states alongwith lightning and hailstorm during 29th/31st May 2020.

It is requested to kindly keep watch and take adequate safety measures in the light

of above.
