NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: For more information contact: March 26, 2012 Kathryn Watts 248-302-9999 [email protected] Michigan State University’s Safe Place to hold April fundraiser EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State University’s Safe Place, with help from Sparty’s coffee shops, will hold an April fundraiser to increase awareness of relationship violence and raise funds for the shelter’s programs. “With this campaign, we hope to increase awareness of Safe Place services and relationship violence on campus,” Alyssa Baumann said, who is a volunteer and advocacy coordinator for the organization. “The donations will go directly to the client services that help survivors of relationship violence and stalking on Michigan State’s campus and in the greater Lansing area,” she added. Donations can be made at all on campus Sparty’s locations during the month of April. Safe Place also recently released two videos featuring Michigan State’s mascot, Sparty, and Scott Westerman, head of MSU’s Alumni Association. Both are advocates for the organization and the videos encourage students to learn more about relationship violence and what they can do to keep themselves safe. Safe Place is Michigan State University’s on-campus domestic and relationship abuse shelter. The organization provides free and confidential advocacy programs, counseling, support groups and legal services to all Michigan State affiliated students, faculty, staff and their partners. # # #

Michigan State University’s Safe Place to hold April fundraiser

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State University’s Safe Place, with help from Sparty’s

coffee shops, will hold an April fundraiser to increase awareness of relationship violence and

raise funds for the shelter’s programs.

“With this campaign, we hope to increase awareness of Safe Place services and

relationship violence on campus,” Alyssa Baumann said, who is a volunteer and advocacy

coordinator for the organization.
