Michigan State University’s Safe Place to hold April fundraiser
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State University’s Safe Place, with help from Sparty’s
coffee shops, will hold an April fundraiser to increase awareness of relationship violence and
raise funds for the shelter’s programs.
“With this campaign, we hope to increase awareness of Safe Place services and
relationship violence on campus,” Alyssa Baumann said, who is a volunteer and advocacy
coordinator for the organization.
“The donations will go directly to the client services that help survivors of relationship
violence and stalking on Michigan State’s campus and in the greater Lansing area,” she added.
Donations can be made at all on campus Sparty’s locations during the month of April.
Safe Place also recently released two videos featuring Michigan State’s mascot, Sparty,
and Scott Westerman, head of MSU’s Alumni Association. Both are advocates for the
organization and the videos encourage students to learn more about relationship violence and
what they can do to keep themselves safe.
Safe Place is Michigan State University’s on-campus domestic and relationship abuse
shelter. The organization provides free and confidential advocacy programs, counseling, support
groups and legal services to all Michigan State affiliated students, faculty, staff and their
partners.
