INTRODUCTION

Since its creation in 1989, the biennial “Parcours Céramique Carougeois” (Carouge Ceramics Itinerary), has become an event of importance to the city of Carouge. Having reached international reputation, the festival offers a link with the history and the radiance of this city whose earthenware factories and ceramics workshops were very active during the 19th century. Today Carouge counts numerous contemporary artists, ceramists and galleries.

The principle of this event is to present contemporary ceramists of great value in about twenty sites in Carouge. These ceramists are selected by a committee of professionals and enlightened amateurs. If the quality of the works is an essential criteria of selection, their cultural diversity as well as the variety of their techniques are also of importance. The Parcours is therefore a reflection of the tendencies of contemporary ceramics. The locations of exhibition spaces, in galleries, museums, etc., are chosen according to their proven participation to the whole dynamic of cultural creation in Carouge.

The “Parcours Céramique Carougeois” has become a reference for professionals as well as a very eclectic and fascinating initiation for amateurs. It livens up through conferences, films projections, artists demonstrations, programs for young publics, which enrich, comment, widen the basic project and ensure an important echo to it. In the course of its editions, The “Parcours Céramique” thus became an artistic gathering and a cultural entertainment of great significance.

During two weeks Carouge lives at the rhythm of this itinerary where a local, national and international public of professionals, collectors, amateurs and curious meets and discovers a diversity of high quality expressions and a sensitive approach to ceramic materials.

LIEUX D’EXPOSITION

For the 11th edition of the Carouge Ceramics Itinerary, more than twenty galleries, ceramists and other contemporary artists’ workshops will present the work of ceramists of national and international renown. They thus offer a representative showcase for contemporary ceramics of great quality and diversity.

The Swiss ceramic relief will be in the place of honour at the Galerie Delafontaine which will expose the best ceramic diplomas of the Schools of Applied Arts of Bern, Geneva and Vevey. They will compete for the prizes of the Swiss Ceramists Association. The Bruckner Foundation will take advantage of this event to award its two annual scholarships.

Two invited ceramists will occupy open air spaces with their installations: the garden of the Museum of Carouge and the park of the Atelier Potter in Pinchat (Carouge) will be invested by the dreamlike world of Agnès Debizet and the naïve characters of Ueli Schmutz.
