Belgium is Design, a project to promote Belgian talents at an international level, presents for the first time a collective booth of Belgian talents at the Stockholm furniture & light fair in the Greenhouse section.The 11 designers and brands chosen for their suitability in a competitive market, both unique and sensitive, offer a variety of products and exceptional pieces: furniture, lights, textiles and wallpaper. This selection gives the opportunity to discover new names launching their own label or be spotted by major international brands. The refreshing creativity of young designers guarantees great surprises. They champion a sustainable process, whether this is an environmentally friendly approach in the choice of materials or the promotion of artisan work.
This allows us to naturally enhance Belgium’s excellent reputation as a country of design!

Driven by the passion for art, design, and craftsmanship Vladimir Slavov creates unique and custom made lighting fixtures. His meticulously hand crafted objects are released under the brand DIM atelier. The fine outlines and the exceptional attention to detail and finish are the main distinguishing characteristics of his exclusive lighting objects.
The Shark sculptural lighting pieces were born from a collaboration between Vladimir Slavov and the architect Dieter Vander Velpen. Cast in brass or bronze, each piece has unique structure and coloring, which is taken in consideration during the finishing, so the unique beauty of each Shark can be complemented.

At first sight, it seems to be a normal round plate, with an equally high outer border. On the inside, however, two curves define direction: at the front a border appears, while at the back food is placed freely presented under slight angle towards the consumer. An interaction with the chef occurs.

Jun Gobron is a Belgian Japanese Interior & Product Designer. Born in Namibia, he spent his childhood in Belgium and received a mixed education in French and Japanese. After graduating in Economics from Brussels’ University he first worked in this busines field. Then he decided to pursue his passion for design and took up studies in Interior Architecture at St-Luc Brussels. He works now as an Interior Designer in an Interior Architecture agency and in parallel he creates products on his own. His design is meant to be simple and functional. Constantly in research for the perfect proportion and detail, he offers subtle and timeless objects that could fit into any living environment.
All products presented in Stockholm are in search for producers except the Yado chair.

The OWA sideboard is minimalist furniture in ash inspired by Japan. It plays on full and empty shapes with a decorative circle in brushed brass.

The Bread & Butter has been made in collaboration with Chef Christian Tirilly. The goal is to rethink the traditional bread basket for restaurant tables and to enhance its presentation. The three elements are perfectly integrated one into the other to symbolize the strong link that exists between bread and butter.

Its unique lampshades are made in knitted mixed techniques. luciollle comes in lamps, suspensions and wall lamps that find their place in houses, offices, receptions, hotels, public spaces ...Combining design, originality and handicraft, luciollle is inspired by current trends. Nathalie Van der Massen (°1988) is an Antwerp based designer working in the fields of textile, graphic design, architecture and interior design. In 2018, she opened her own studio/showroom in Antwerp and launched her first collection, mostly using linen. Flax or linen has a unique tactile quality and is furthermore one of the most sustainable and biodegradable fibres. As textiles and linen are a great part of Belgian and European heritage, the collection is developed and produced in Belgium and the Netherlands to guarantee the best knowhow and quality. The collection consists of fabric available per meter, limited editions and unique pieces for the project market (B2B).
Textiles have a huge potential as autonomous, spatial and acoustic elements within an architectural or living environment. Because of her love for architecture and spatial design Van der Massen is focused primarily on interior textiles and autonomous pieces.
Van der Massen’s work is characterized by a fascination and sensitivity for (natural) materials, surface and technicality. She explores the possibilities of weaving and tries to find a balance between industrial techniques and production on the one hand and craftsmanship.

After his studies at the industrial design studio ENSAV-La Cambre and after two internships in Paris (Radi-designers, Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec), he creates his personal workshop NICOLAS BOVESSE DESIGN STUDIO. In his work, Nicolas Bovesse likes to create new objects whose story begins in everyday life. From a concept born as a drawing, from a drawing born as a model, from a model born as a prototype, from a prototype born as a product. Each of his creations is proof of long research into code, form, function, history, time. Very diverse in his approach to design, Nicolas Bovesse wanders between serial production and the unique object.

“Nik Aelbrecht (°1990) is trained as an architect, but operates as a designer. Challenging conventional typologies, traditional production processes, balance and structure of objects, he formulates designs that are seemingly effortless, but profoundly complex. Table T seems to challenge the tipping point, floating between eternal equilibrium and constant collapse. Shifted table-legs smoothly question conventional furniture vocabulary while a sensual play of lines, details and shadows suggest this table belongs in the dining room of a large marble-coated mansion. Open corners invite people to take place.”

The TS lounger is a three-dimensional framework that is proportioned to a reclining person. Inspired by Vitruvius and Buckminster Fuller, studio Modan makes a geometric abstraction of this pose.

Gota Collection is the result of a collaboration between OGSB and Ateliers J&J, a Belgian/French design and manufacturing company. One family of mono-material and LED lights has been imagined and designed to fit into a short-circuit and eco-friendly vision. The collaboration is completed by one modular sofa concept that plays with the strength of steel and the elegance of textile work has been designed with the same cares.

Born in 1991, Belgian designer Pierre-Emmanuel Vandeputte received his master’s degree in industrial design from the ENSAV La Cambre in 2014. Legs is a collection of unique furniture for the contemporary home; asymmetrical powder coated steel structures. They’ve made their way into a new space: a room that is familiar to you, but causes them to hesitate. Their legs freeze on paths to destinations unknown. They are stilled in time. What has brought them to your home? As you approach, you begin to notice that their limbs extend to corners of the room that you left unfurnished and were quick to forget. What are they showing you? Your legs mingle with theirs to walk a path of mutual discovery. Their bodies of cold steel contrast with curved articulations and flat uninterrupted surfaces. Each creature presents a different scale of proportions. Some are more easily suited to the indulgent pace of a lazy weekend morning; others to a brief gesture of acknowledgement as you run out the door, and others still to support simple evenings of deserved recovery. Regardless of their nature, you are grateful for the strangeness of these Legs: suspended in fantasy and now rooted in the floor of your own home.

Entrepreneur, Alexia de Ville first took a multidisciplinary artistic training in Brussels and London, before launching in 2014 her creative brand in the Belgian capital, under the label TENUE DE VILLE. As accomplished visual artist, she takes on all mediums to give substance to her ideas, moving freely from engraving to collage, from drawing to photography, etc., before refining her research with graphic programs. Idealized landscapes, childhood memories, abstract daydreams... Tenue de Ville launches one collection each year and dares a singularity that transforms the walls and carries the imagination away.
With her 5th collection named SPICE, she sets aside the subtle textures that made the success of her 3rd collection BALSAM, and brings strong and illustrative patterns back into shape, just like she did in her first collection CITY GARDEN. Flora and fauna reappear in dreamlike compositions, where color plays a central role.
The production of Tenue de Ville is always part of a local and environmental approach. As with previous collections, all of Saudade’s work is done in Belgium. The inks used are water based, and the paper is FSC certified, to ensure sustainable forest management.

VONK lives, works and celebrates. You never have to worry, VONK outdoor furniture collection endures a lot. They are design pieces that perfectly match the imperfection of life, beautiful things for those who want to enjoy the whole year round. Founder and designer Jonas Willems spent years on perfecting the art of creating high quality furniture for daily use. Each piece of furniture he made was a process of understanding the needs of the customer, tuning the form of the design into the setting and carefully assigning materials. Jonas decided to incorporate his knowledge into his own furniture collection. His vision focusses on displaying the beauty of the materials by understanding its quality and by considering form, function and joinery of the piece of furniture itself.
For this edition of the fair, VONK showcases FIZZ table, POND bench and TRIP stool. A hardwood and aluminium collection indestructible highlight in your garden, getting a natural greyish coating as years pass by. BELGIUM IS DESIGN promotes Belgian design on an international stage. In existence for more than 10 years, this platform is the initiative of several design promotion institutions, such as Flanders DC, MAD Brussels and Wallonia-Brussels Design Mode (WBDM).
From 2018, Belgium is Design is targetting a new identity. The Brussels studio Kidnap Your Designer has chosen to permeate it with a bit of Belgitude by using a typeface, The Alfphabet Family, which clearly has its roots in national culture as it was used for a long time on roadsigns and called Alphabet in French and Alfabet in Dutch. Playing on repetition, the letter E echos drawing, the writing gesture when a project comes into being, and it characterises the label’s identity.

Belgian creativity in the design sector and promoting dynamic young businesses that will be the key figures of the future: that is the mission of Wallonie-Bruxelles Design Mode (WBDM), the public agency for the promotion of design and fashion which seeks to improve the international visibility of designers from Wallonia and Brussels.
