PRESS KIT

Welcome to the capital of conventual pastry From 17 to 20 November 2011We can not tell you the secrets, but we can challenge you to travel through time to discover the origin of the conventual pastry, the essence of the egg cream, the customs shared by the Cistercian monks and nuns, until they reveal all the details hidden in the convents. An art that originated in Portugal in the fifteenth century.

A scenario that fits perfectly in kitchens, ovens or even counters decorated with yellow-brown which hosts the XIII International exhibition of Conventual Pastry and liqueurs. This event has already received an Honorable Mention of the Portuguese Tourism Prize 2010, for the category of Best Event, during the International Tourism Fair (BTL).

To our visitors, we only wish you to have fun in this one and only place [Monastery of Santa Maria de Alcobaça, and Wonder of the World Heritage of Portugal] which reunites the widest range of conventual products with national and international representation of Portugal. A pla-ce that represents the most beautiful love story ever told of D. Pedro and Inês de Castro.

This event, which hosts over 40 national and international participants, will be attended by representatives from Portuguese convents, monasteries of Spain, Abbeys of France, Belgium and Brazil.

Sugar becomes, once again, the most charismatic mark of the best convent exhibition of the country, where over 35,000 visitors are expected.

Welcome to the capital of conventual sweets.

How to promote the event This year, we’ll be promoting the even through online communication such as the official websi-te www.docesconventuais.com and the social networks such as Facebook www.facebook.com/doceselicoresconventuais.

The organization (Municipality of Alcobaça, Portugal) has also decided to promote the event through viral marketing campaigns and outdoor activities. The main goals are to encourage visi-tors to participate interactively in the event and promote its visibility and reputation throughout the year.

AnimationDuring four days there will be plenty of excitement among the three rooms of the monastery, the corridors and cloisters. Aside from the pleasant presence of the figurines - mythical cha-racters of Portugal’s history- the visitors can participate in the Show-cooking workshops for children and adults.

The event will also have theatrical and musical shows and other activities described on the official web site.

Internationalization After the amazing and surprising diversity of our visitors’ nationalities last year, with the presence of more than 40 Portuguese cities and the representation of approximately 16 countries (South Africa, Germany, Belgium, Canada, Spain, Finland, Holland, England, France, Italy, Brazil, USA, China, Israel, Ukraine and Venezuela), the Municipality continues its mission of internationalizing the occasion by inviting foreign participants to showcase their products during the exhibition. The goal is to take the event beyond the usual boundaries, and transform it into a world reference.

Therefore, every year and during the show, the organization promotes a contest to award the best liqueur and the best sweet of the exhibition among the participants. The jury is composed of highly respected Portuguese chefs.
