From April 21 to the 27, the Bar Lounge is serving a delicious and rare menu of Mexican food. For those of you who fantasize about when you’ll have your next taco or burrito, here is your answer. With special treats such as a hot and spicy chilli con carne, or a baked corn quesadilla, as well as the long time favorites of pork fajitas and a beef burrito, this is a week not to miss. All dishes are served with sour cream, guacamole and tomato chili salsa, and most importantly, a free glass of beer compliments of Tiger.

The Bar Lounge offers both surprising and scintillating uses of this most loved fruit, including a crispy catfish salad with green mango, a chilled mango soup, and even breaded pork tenderloin “Cordon Blue” with mango. The week of May 19 is delightfully full of your favorite carbohydrates. From vegetarian ravioli, spaghetti with pork tenderloin and Parma ham, to baked beef lasagna, and Fusili pasta, each noodle dish offers a unique flavor that is hard to find in Hanoi. June 15 marks Father’s Day. It’s one of the unsung holidays and so a little history of this day is due.

In the year 1910, a woman name Sonora Smart Dodd in Spokane, Washington USA decided she wanted to commemorate her father, a Civil War veteran named William Jackson Smart. He was a single parent who had raised six children. Dodd had heard a sermon delivered the year before by Anna Jarvis who initiated Mother’s Day, and told the pastor of her church that they should have a similar holiday for fathers. She initially suggested June 5, her own father’s birthday. However, there wasn’t enough time to prepare and so the day was assigned to the third Sunday of June. It is this date that is still celebrated, both in America and in Vietnam, as the day to honor the role of fathers.

And what an important role it is. Throughout history and in many different societies, the brunt of the work of child rearing falls to the mother. It is not uncommon for the space of the father is a modern family to be a negative space. Which is all the more reason to emphasize the role of the father in the family. Not just as the moneymaker or the decision maker, but as the loving care giver too.

As families modernize, the roles and responsibilities of both parents are becoming more equal, or less clearly defined. Mothers and fathers work together to raise children, but the traditional rules for whom does which part are blurring. Father’s Day is thus a good day to celebrate the non-traditional roles that fathers fulfill, whether that be the stay-at-home dads, or the ones who cook breakfast. Maybe for this Father’s Day, you could be the one who cooks breakfast for your father. Or visit Press Club and let someone else do it for your father.

Ngày của Cha là ngày 15 tháng 6 hàng năm, ngày lễ khá mới mẻ này chưa có nhiều câu chuyện ghi về lịch sử hình thành của nó.

Năm 1910, một phụ nữ tên Sonora Smart Dodd sống tại Spokane, Washington USA đã đề xuất ý tưởng này, nhưng mãi đến năm 1972 (thời Tổng thống Nixon) nó mới được chính thức công nhận. Mục đích của Sonora là nhằm để ca ngợi công đức của người cha quá cố, ông William Jackson Smart, một cựu quân nhân đã một mình nuôi sáu đứa con nên người. Năm trước đó, Dod đã có dịp được nghe bài thuyết giảng của bà Anna Jarrvis - người đã khởi xướng Ngày của Mẹ, và đề nghị Mục sư tại nhà thờ mà cô tham gia rằng họ cũng nên có một ngày lễ tương tự để tôn vinh người cha. Ban đầu cô đề nghị lấy ngày 5 tháng 6, ngày sinh nhật của cha cô. Tuy nhiên, họ không có đủ thời gian để chuẩn bị mọi thứ nên ngày đã dời sang ngày Chủ nhật thứ 3 của tháng 6. Hiện tại, ngày này vẫn được xem là ngày lễ để tôn vinh vai trò của người cha tại Mỹ và Việt Nam.

Và vai trò quan trọng của người cha là gì? Trong suốt nhiều thế hệ lịch sử, khối lượng công việc khổng lồ khi chăm sóc những đứa trẻ đều do một tay người mẹ làm. Đó không phải là thông lệ khi người cha lại là người chăm sóc những đứa con. Vậy đâu là lý do tốt nhất để nhấn mạnh vai trò của người cha trong gia đình? Không chỉ là người kiếm tiền trụ cột hay là người ra quyết định, mà còn là người quan tâm, chăm sóc gia đình. Trong thời đại ngày nay, vai trò và trách nhiệm của cha và mẹ là như nhau với việc nuôi nấng con cái.

Ngày của Cha là ngày tuyệt vời để tôn vinh, ghi nhớ vai trò của người Cha trong gia đình. Bạn có thể vào bếp, tự tay nấu bữa sáng cho Cha của mình, hoặc ghé thăm Press Club Hà Nội mời người Cha của bạn thưởng thức một bữa ăn tuyệt ngon.

Secretary. Though the definition of the word may be simple, a person employed to assist in record keeping and appointment making, the real work of a secretary can go far beyond what is written in the job description. Counselor, therapist, coach, calendar keeper, event organizer, social planner. To some extent a really good personal assistant can be like some percentage of the employer’s brain. There are countless facts and details that one need not keep in their memory if they can rely on someone else to do so for them.

Which is all to say, if you are lucky and important enough to have a secretary, know that their work is (perhaps) as vital as one of your bodily organs.

To me, what is most important about Secretary’s Day is not to be condescending. And perhaps the most dangerous thing about being condescending is not realizing when you are being condescending. For example, it is condescending to ignore the hard work that someone does for an entire year and then give them flowers one day and that is all they need to make them

happy. It is condescending for a compliment about work ethic and professional ability to include how pretty they are, or how lovely their smile is. Of course, those are nice compliments to get. But the physical appearance of a person should probably not, in the opinion of this writer, factor in to the shower of praise that is given to them on their special day of the year. Maybe it is difficult to see what is wrong with calling someone beautiful when complimenting their work. A person’s looks are after all an indispensible part of what we perceive when we interact with them. However, to focus on appearances on a day that is meant to celebrate the hard work that is done professionally, can take away from the dignity and importance of that work. In fact, in some places in the world, the word “secretary” has come to be considered an inappropriate word for what it denotes about the level of importance of the job. Instead, the name of the day is Administrative Professionals Day.

The day is celebrated differently in different parts of the world, but usually includes social gatherings, gift exchange, or corporate activities. Perhaps we can think about an alternative way to celebrate Secretary’s Day this year. Yes, there is nothing at all wrong with giving flowers and nice notes and thank you cards. But one other option might be to open up your calendar (granted you have one separate from the one your secretary keeps) and pick one day, randomly, to bring flowers to work to show your gratitude. After all, might it mean something more significant if the flowers or the praise came on a day that was not internationally recognized as the day you are supposed to bring flowers?

This year, Secretary’s Day falls on April 23. It might be a lovely idea to pick one other day in the year to remember to recognize the work of those people on whom you depend. And while we’re at it, perhaps we can even start to think about how we celebrate Women’s Day as well.

Thư ký, nhân viên hỗ trợ trong công việc giấy tờ, lên lịch cuộc họp, tuy nhiên, công việc thực tế của một thư ký còn nhiều hơn so với ban miêu tả công việc. Tư vấn viên, nhà trị liệu, huẩn luyện viên, nhân viên tổ chức sự kiện, chuyên viên tổ chức chương trình xã hội… Một thứ ký giỏi sẽ là người trợ thủ đắc lực cho sếp. Thư ký luôn ghi nhớ những chi tiết nhỏ và những công việc cần phải hoàn thành. Người thư kỹ rõ ràng đóng vai trò quan trọng trong một tổ chức.

Với tôi, điều quan trọng nhất về Ngày Thư ký đó là đừng thể hiện thái độ cao ngạo. Thay vào đó hãy nói lời cảm ơn người thư ký và tặng họ một bó hoa tươi thắm, đấy là tất cả những điều cần thiết để làm họ hạnh phúc. Sẽ thật hào phóng nếu bạn dành lời khen cho khả năng và kết quả làm việc chuyên nghiệp của họ, và cũng đừng quên dành tặng họ những lời khen ngợi.

Hãy tạo cho họ một ngày thực sự đặc biệt để thể hiện sự trân trọng. Ngoại hình quan trọng nhưng không phải là tất cả để làm nên sự thành công cho người thư ký. Thực tế, ở một số nước trên thế giới, từ “thư ký” được xem là một từ dùng để mô tả không chính xác tầm quan trọng công việc của người đó. Chính vì thế, tên của ngày lễ được dùng là Ngày hành chính chuyên nghiệp.

Ngày của Thư ký được tổ chức khác nhau ở các nước trên thế giới, nhưng thông thường, sẽ có các buổi gặp gỡ, tặng quà và các hoạt động cộng đồng khác. Và sẽ thật tuyệt nếu bạn tặng họ những bó hoa đẹp cùng tấm thiệp cảm ơn những cống hiến của họ. Cũng có thể có một sự lựa chọn khác đó là chọn ngẫu nhiên một ngày, mang hoa tặng họ hoặc dành lời khen ngợi cho công việc vào một ngày bình thường đó. Điều này cũng sẽ rất ý nghĩa.

Năm nay, Ngày Thư ký là ngày 23 tháng 4, bạn hãy gửi những lời cảm ơn chân thành nhất tới người thư ký của mình.

CAMBODIA [ Nature and tribal heartland of Mondulkiri ]This four day tour takes us to Mondulkiri province, a remote region in rural Cambodia famed for its vibrant green landscape home to the Phnong indigenous trip. The journey from Phnom Penh passes through cassava, pepper, durian and rubber plantations, employment for many people living in this region. Highlights include visiting a Pulung village – home to the Phnong indigenous tribe, and learning all about their community and customs from a local guide. There’s also the opportunity to trek to a scenic two-tiered waterfall, Bou Sraa, as well as spending a full day at the Elephant Valley Project (ELIE), an ecotourism project that provides an alternative approach to elephant care, rehabilitation and conservation.

This season Press Club offers the insider secrets to Quiche Lorraine.

Preparation: Pre-heat the oven to 220 degrees Celsius. Lay the pie crust in the cocotte. Sauté the onions and bacon in butter, add thyme and parsley to taste. Cool and mix the cheese, put it on top of the pie crust in the cocotte.

Mix the cream with eggs and stir well. Season with salt, pepper, and cayenne. Pour the mixture over the cheese until covered. Add the tomatoes on top and bake at 218 degrees Celsius for 15 minutes. Then lower the temperature to 150 and continue to bake for another 30 minutes. Remove from the oven and let rest for about 10 minutes. Serve with a crispy summer salad and a glass of Chardonnay!

It seems a bit absurd to only dedicate one hour a year to the planet that gives us breathable air, drinkable water, and life itself, day in and day out, for billions of years now. Nevertheless, one hour of real attention is better than no hour at all.

Earth Hour, first recognized as a “lights off” event in Sydney, Australia in 2007, has since grown to include the participation of 7000 cities worldwide. It is an event to encourage families, businesses, and towns, to turn off their non-essential lights and electrical appliances for one hour. Usually held toward the end of March, Earth Hour this year falls on March 29, from 8:30pm to 9:30pm.

The hour is more symbolic than functional, a means of raising awareness rather than actually reducing carbon and energy emissions. It is a way to start afresh the dialogue about environmental issues that so often gets pushed to the side in favor of modern convenience.

And, it is one of the rare hours when millions of individuals all over the world pause for a time to direct their attention to a shared concern.

Perhaps one hour is all that we can realistically spend being mindful of the extent to which we use the nonrenewable resources of Earth. Perhaps if we really thought about our consumption of energy every minute of the day, every day of the year, it might be too much to handle. We might get caught up in a dark truth inside our dark rooms.

One thing that is important to think about during Earth Hour is what we are actually doing to “celebrate” it. It’s easy to treat this “holiday” as any other holiday. To switch on television to see the people in the streets, or to go out in the streets to watch fireworks, use our cell phones to meet up with friends to drive around the darkened streets of the city, or text all our loved ones “happy Earth Hour!” Of course, all these forms of celebration are counterproductive to the holiday itself.

Rather than the usual kind of festivities, the celebration asked of us from Earth Hour is less social, is less “fun”; it is really not a celebration at all. It is a quiet reckoning with ourselves, a silent and dark time, maybe even a bit solitary.

But we don’t have to think about it as a lonely or depressing time.

No, not at all. It is an opportunity to be introspective, to reflect on more than just energy consumption. It is a time we can reflect on our lives and the blessings of the Earth. It can be a kind of quiet that we do not ordinarily comes across in our normal lives.

Mỗi năm chúng ta chỉ dành một giờ cho trái đất - hành tinh mang đến không khí, nước sạch và sự sống trong hàng tỉ năm qua. Tuy nhiên, một giờ này thực sự vô cùng quý giá.

Một giờ đồng hồ là lượng thời gian tối đa mà chúng ta có thể dành ra cho Trái đất, nhưng nếu chúng ta thực sự suy nghĩ về lượng năng lượng tiêu thụ hàng ngày hàng giờ trong năm thì còn nhiều vấn đề cần phải bàn tới.

Hãy suy ngẫm về những việc chúng ta thực sự làm để chào mừng Giờ Trái đất. Chúng ta có thể dễ dàng tổ chức giờ Trái đất như bất kỳ ngày lễ nào khác. Có thể bật tivi và ngắm người qua lại trên phố hay ra đường ngắm pháo hoa, hay liên lạc với người thân qua di động hoặc đơn giản nhắn tín “Chào mừng Giờ Trái đất”.
