It has been “A” great summer of

club activities, and many mem-bers are putting

miles on their cars. But the fun is not yet over as we have sever-al more trips planned before you

put the “A” away for the winter. I’m ready for the next tour, (after a full day of cleaning following

the Bridges Tour). Read over the events throughout this newslet-

ter, and I hope you will find at least one or possibly two to take part in. I look forward to seeing

you out and about in your “A”.

Also start looking for items to put on the October “White Elephant”

Sale. Your old “stuff” may just be something someone else can’t live without.

Lastly, Greg Bowden is looking for people to run for offices and

the Board of Directors. Please consider dedicating some time to YOUR club by helping to fill one

of the positions. When everyone takes a turn doing a part, it helps keep the momentum going so

that the jobs don’t become a bur-den to a few. Elections will be at

September Tech Talk

This month’s tech talk will cover rebuilding the rear brake system on Model ‘A’s. We’ll check out all the worn-out areas, what to replace,

what to rebuild, and what to do to make these brakes work efficiently once again. Besides the service brake, we’ll talk about the emergency brake system and what can be done to make this system work as it

was designed. This was a suggested tech talk from the suggestion box, so I hope to

see a good showing in attendance. I know you will pick up some pointers and see that this area is not as bad to rebuild as one might think. See you there.

Vintage Wheels at the Fort

We had another beautiful day for the Vintage

Wheels Show. Unfortunately, although it turned out to be beautiful, the weather man had pre-dicted showers all

week. Between that, other events on the same day, and who

knows what, attend-ance was down a bit this year.

We did have some great

V i n t a g e W h e e l s , though. From

Model Ts to a ’50 Ford Woodie Wagon to a ’57 Chevy and lots of great cars in between.

Our Show Favorite was decided by a vote of the entrants and the spectators. The Favorite was Roger Olsen’s

1939 Lincoln Zephyr. Close be-

hind were a 1914 Model T owned by Walt and Mari-

lyn Kassube and Bob and Trish Rand ’ s 1930

Model A Limo.

Thanks to all of you who helped make this show a success: The food booth organizers and work-

ers, including all the members who brought yummy goodies to sell, the registration crew,

the “parkers,” the PA crew. A special thanks to Lori Rima for making a special “throw” to raffle at this event.

Up Coming Activities

Loess Hills Iowa Tour September 21, 2014

Come join us for a ride through the Loess Hills of Iowa, and enjoy a chicken and noodle

dinner in downtown Pisgah, IA. We will do a photo stop at the Ingemann Danish Church that was founded in 1894, followed up later in

the afternoon by the required ice cream stop at the Dairy Queen in Onawa, IA. We will try

to get a stop at the keel boat display, if it is open. Then we will travel across the Missouri. It is now a free bridge, and return home. We

plan to leave Crescent IA. Sunday morn-ing September 21 at 10 o'clock from Denny’s parking lot. Denny’s (735 Old Lin-

coln Hwy) is located north of the Casey's that is under construction in Crescent. Go to the Casey's and turn left go 2 blocks north is on

right side of street. Hope to see you then. Sign up sheet will be at meeting Sept 13th.

Highway Litter Pick Up Another chance for fun,

fresh air and club service.

That’s right the club has sched-

uled a trash pickup date for the

11th of October. It is always

fun in the nice fall weather to

take a couple mile walk with fellow members

and do something positive for our environment.

We will meet at the Cubby’s located on the

south west corner of 156th & HWY 36 at 10:00

am, and leave from there to our pickup spot.

We usually follow up with lunch and some live-

ly conversation at one of the local restaurants.

So mark it on your calendar and sign up on the

sheet at the next meeting.

If you won’t be able to make the meeting, call

Howard Denker at 333-1393 and let him

know that you plan to attend.

Drive Your Model A Day

September 13, 2014

We have a picnic and a club meeting on Satur-

day Sept. 13th. This is also Drive Your Model A

Day. Why not take this chance(excuse) to get

your car out. If you take a picture with your car

and send it to me by email, post or hand it to

me at the meeting, I will put the pictures in the

October newsletter.

braska to visit the Silver Hills Winery. Depend-

ing on the weather, they will be cooking a nice

In Memoriam: Steve Lustgarten

We are sorry to announce that one of our members, Steve Lustgarten, died on August 25. According to the obituary in the World-Herald, he was born in 1928 and served in the US Navy in World War II. He practiced law in Omaha for 50

years. We didn’t see Steve much, but, as an attorney, he was always willing to help

the club with legal issues. He had a 1930 Deluxe Coupe that he loved to drive. We will miss him.

DUES—it’s that time again

Excerpt from the Meadowlark By-laws, Ar-ticle III, Section 3: “Dues are assessed for

the calendar year. Dues shall be payable in November. They will be delinquent on the first of December. Dues shall be $24.00

per year per family. A late fee of $6.00 will be assessed after December 1. . . Members must send in their own national club dues each

year. On the yearly update to their membership card, they will provide their membership num-ber and sign a statement that they are members

of one of the national clubs.” Take-aways:

1. Pay your dues by December 1 to avoid an additional fee. It is not too early to pay your 2015 dues now. You can pay your dues to

Ken Grigsby, our Treasurer, at the September, October, or November meetings OR send them to our club Post Office Box (the return address

shown on the mailing label page of this newslet-ter).

2. Don’t forget to renew your membership

in at least one of the national clubs. You

are “on your honor,” but you will also need to

provide your assurance that you did that.

In need of some nice original or

reproduction parts?

I was recently contacted by Don Hogenson who owns two nice Model A’s. A 29 Pickup and a 31

Roadster. Don has been Model A’ing for several years and has an accumulation of original unre-stored parts and a few new replacement parts.

He would like to get rid of these extra parts and clean out his garage. I have visited him and seen most of the parts. They are all cleaned up,

no rust in this pile, so you can see just how much wear they have. Several of the parts that I examined had only minor wear and should

perform for years to come. I will bring a copy of the complete list of parts that he has to the next

meeting. On the list he has put down the cost of new replacement parts and what he wants for the slightly worn original parts. In most cases

he is at or below 50% of the cost of replace-ment parts. He would like to find a new home for them. I am sure that he might even enter-

tain an offer, if it is not too low.

So come to the next meeting and examine the list, which is 9 ½ pages long, for an item you can not live without. I will also have information

on how to contact him. Howard Denker

Hen’s Nest

We didn't have anything planned for our August

meeting so we just caught up on everything we had been doing this summer.

Jan and Mary gave us some highlights of the Michigan tour. From all reports great fun was had by all.

We also talked about gardens, kids and fun.

Nancy Hanshaw gave us a demo on how to cro-chet a mat with plastic bags. She said you don't even need to know how to crochet to be able to

make one. She is a member of a group of women from several church's that do this for the homeless. The homeless use them to put

under sleeping bags to keep them dry or just to sleep on them to stay dry themselves. She said

they could use some help in collecting plastic bags. I know we all have the famous grocery bags at our homes so if you want to get rid of

them bring them to the meeting ask your friends and neighbors for theirs and give them to Nancy. It takes 500-700 bags to make one

mat. If there is any one out there that would like to help them crochet she will be glad to do a demo again at one of our meetings. The bags

have to be cut and rolled into a ball. I told her that we would be happy to take some of the

collected bags and help cut and roll them for her at one of our meetings. At the Wheels at Fort show she had a number of people ask her

what she was doing, and they thought it would be a good service project. She even had some high school girls ask her and they were going to

see if their school could do it.

For our next meeting Nan-cy is going to do a presen-tation on the Amish.

Meadowlark/Cornhusker Fall Picnic

Saturday, September 13, 2014

at Mahoney State Park. Because the shelters aren't reserved, Gayle and Nancy will get to the park early and get a shel-ter. We will try to let the park check-in station know, and we will try to have signs directing members to our shelter. If all else fails, drive around until you find the group or call Gayle when you get into the park. Everyone is to bring their own plates, utensils, cups, drinks, etc. along with covered dish(es) to share. We will not have a shelter with electricity, but park grilles will be available for grilling. Plan and pre-pare food accordingly and bring "Kingsford" bri-quettes if needed. Members who choose to drive their modern cars are welcome to bring food and join in.

The schedule is: 10:30 AM-12:00 AM - Gather at Mahoney Park

(location to be determined) 12:00 PM - Eat dinner 01:15 PM - Socialize and plan for taking pic-tures 02:00 PM - Take pictures

03:00 PM - Wrap Up and Go home

Other activities are available for attendees to partake in after the picnic. 1)A "Speakers Festi-val" will be going on in the Lodge, so, this might interest some; 2) horse trail rides; 3) miniature golf; 4) paddle boat rental; 5) arts and crafts center; 6) activity center for the kids, 7) go to Ashland and experience the Willow Point Gal-lery of art by Gene Ronka.

In Memoriam: Madeline Cooper We are also sorry to say that Madeline Cooper

died on August 29. She worked for Pratt Whit-ney, an aircraft engine manufacturing plant,

during World War II.

Madeline and Frank Cooper were married in 1947, almost 70 years

ago. We remember Madeline

for her love of animals. She would often accompa-

ny Frank on Model A outings. She and her dog,

Mogus, liked to ride in the rumble seat. She and Frank also spent lots of time square

Stolen Model T of Dave and

Ester Millers –FOUND

Dave and Ester Miller’s 1914 Model T

Touring was stolen from the lane by

the Desoto Bend Inn & Suites in

Missouri Val-ley Iowa

early Satur-day August

30st 2014. The tow vehicle was found in

Omaha Nebraska around 52nd and Un-derwood. The trailer with my 1914 in it is still missing. The VIN of the model T is

420779. The front de-mountable wheels are unique as they are 3 by 3 de-mountables. The tread pattern on front is

no skid. Please keep an eye out this car and trailer. It has very special meaning to my family. My father in law bought it in

64 my wife was raised with it. We used it in our wedding, received it as our wed-ding present, and used it in my daughter’s

wedding. It may or may not still be in the Omaha area.

Please notify the authorities with any in-formation you may have to help in its re-

covery. Attached are photos of the trailer and the most recent of my model T.

From the Editor, The summer seems to be going by so fast. Labor Day has come and gone, and I still haven’t driven the A as much as I would have liked. This is the second to last newsletter I will be editing. It has been a 4 year run, and it is time for me to step down. I will do the October newsletter unless someone steps forward to do it. I have enjoyed being your newsletter edi-tor over the past few years, but it is time to move on and get some other things accom-plished. The trailer with our Model T still in it was located this evening in a parking lot

around 56th and Sorenson parkway. The vehicles (Trailer and Model T) were pro-cessed by the Omaha Police department

and released to their respective owners.
