February 2019 Omaha, Nebraska Volume 51, Issue 2 Hello Fellow Members! Well, I am back. I need to remind myself that cold wintery weather is very normal for January. I am hoping to have a year of fun and adventure with the shows, tours, and may be an overnighter somewhere. February is the special event of Valennes Day. Valennes Day is also known as St. Valennes Day or Feast of Saint Valenne. Accord- ing to Wikipedia this originated as a Western Chrisan Feast day honoring one or two early saints named Valennus. It is recog- nized as a significant cultural, re- ligious and commercial celebra- on of romance and romanc love in many regions around the world, although it is not a public holiday in any country. One story includes a wrien account of St. Valenne of Rome who was impris- oned for performing weddings for soldiers, apparently they were not permied to marry (I did not know that !). Esther’s message continued from p. 1: St. Valentine (according to this source-Wikipedia) ministered to Christians persecuted under the Roman Empire. “According to legend (and Wikipedia), before his execution he wrote a letter to the judge’s daughter whom he had cured of her blindness and signed the letter ‘Your Valentine’. Now we move on to Geoffrey Chaucer, you remember the author of “The Canterbury Tales”, this is in the 14thCentury. Courtly love was taking off and romantic love became associated with this “feast”. By the 18th Century, “it evolved into an occasion in which lovers express their love for each other by presenting flowers, offering confectionery, and sending greeting cards (known as Valen-tine’s)” (Wikipedia). And as you can see this has changed to a more commercialized endeavor, but the thoughts of love and kindness are still there.

See you soon,

Esther

The Club’s Eat Out at The Special Restau-rant on January 24th in Bellevue was well attended on that bitterly cold even-ing. They had plenty of menu choices, I had a very hard time deciding and was told by others there that any choice was always good. So we had our comfort food, good fellowship and stories of the past. Mary McKinney brought some old photos that we attempted to figure out who they were. She had one which showed Bob with hair. Those who ven-tured out were: Anne & Jerry Kotlik, Mary

& Bob McKinney, Karen & Don Noodell, Janet & Don Graves, Dot & El Gertner, Susan & Ed Dellinger, Mari-lyn & Mike Cahalane, Jason Suggs, and David Miller and myself (Esther Miller).

Keep Your “A” Running and Also Protected Learn how to protect your wiring from shorts, while still making it look period correct. The November – December issue of The Model A News talked about putting fuses in a Model A to protect it from shorts that at best could leave your car Found On Road Dead, or worse with a wiring fire, or even worse. Get an early briefing on the next article that will appear in the January – February issue of the Model A News that clarifies a better way to install fuses. Howard Denker

Total Knee Replacement seems to be contagious.

This week, Anne Kotlik is having one. Our thoughts

and prayers with Anne for a fast recovery.

Looking for a Home! Our Club Library has been housed at the McKinney’s home for 10 years. Mary has decided that she would like to let someone else house it for a while. It consists of many issues of The Restorer (MAFCA magazine) and Model A News (MARC magazine) and several books and a few videos. It comes with a bookcase. The only responsibility that goes with housing the library is bringing a piece to a meeting now and then if someone requests it. If you want to know more about what this involves, talk to Mary McKinney.
