You know that statement that

we always begin to hear this time

of year, "The only two certainties

in life are death and taxes"??

Well, add to that list of

"certainties", PNA CHAMPS.

Yes, it's that time of year. PNA

Champs is scheduled for April 8th

and 9th, at the Weyerhaeuser

King County Aquatic Center.

BWAQ, formerly known as

Federal Way Masters, has hosted

quality meet, and the reason for

that is due to our club membership

make up our team.

BWAQ cannot host a meet of

this magnitude without everyone

doing their part. We are a big

enough club that if each of us just

contributes a little, it will make all

the difference.

And for those of you who might

think, “I can't help because I want

to swim, and I can't do both.", that

is utter nonsense because the

organizing committee has, for

years, done both, and done so

without any problems or conflicts.

whatever reason)", that doesn't

mean that you are prohibited

from volunteering. The event is

fun; the event is festive; AND it

affords you the opportunity to

hang with your friends and to

make new ones.

If that is not incentive

enough, CHAMPS is one of the

major fund raisers for BWAQ.

This means, if you want your

dues to remain low and continue

to reap the other benefits that

our club has to offer, it is

important for each of you to give

back to the club in some way.

So, please, be a part of

CHAMPS in April.... both as a

swimmer and as a volunteer!

Entries for CHAMPS are now

being accepted. Get your entry

in NOW.... before you have to

pay Uncle Sam on April 15th!!

In addition to CHAMPS is

April, I want to continue to

remind you of the other two big

events that BWAQ will be

hosting this year..... SWIM

DEFIANCE at Owen Beach,

located in Pt. Defiance Park in

Tacoma, scheduled for

Saturday, June 3, 2017; and

LAST GASP OF SUMMER

(LGOS), located at Angle Lake

and scheduled for September

23, 2017. It is important to note

that LGOS has been selected by

US Swimming as the national 1

mile championship. This is

going to be a BIG event, with a lot of

national recognition.

As you can readily see, BWAQ is

going to have a very busy 2017. As

busy as it is, it will be even more fun to

be a part of. Even if you are not

planning on swimming, I ask that you

offer to volunteer as each of these

events offers its own unique and festive

atmosphere.

Please talk with your pool rep, or any

member of the board, or even, contact

me to let me know how you are

planning to help YOUR club. I thank

each of you in advance for your

volunteer services. Cheers!

day or really exhausted it's no

problem. Give yourself

permission to slow down to

release stress verses create

more. Studies show working out

hard when you're emotionally

stressed or angry isn't good for

you're heart.

Here's a few tips to improve

on challenging skills and drills:

*float first: this may seems

obvious however most

swimmers that struggle get

focused on the task verses

relaxing and floating in order to

make things easier and more

enjoyable.

*sculling: float first and

remember if your legs are

sinking there's an arch in your

back. Create a neutral spine and

scooping at your hips near your

belly button. If this still doesn't

work for you, put a pull buoy

below your knee and squeeze

as you scull, this will activate the

proper core muscles needed to

keep you afloat.

*any drill: floating and neutral

head position is the key to

success in any drill. If your head

position is off even a little bit

your drill is rough and turns on

unwanted muscles verses being

fluid and enjoyable.

*front kicking: float and start by

snapping your shin down, then
