He currently is a Partner with Acuff & Associates, a Regional Retirement Plan Consulting firm which represents over 1,000 clients in the Southeast United States. His firm assists Employers in establishing Retirement Plans for their employees. Additionally, his firm provides administrative and reporting services for their clients, required by ERISA, to various Governmental Agencies. His primary focus is in the area of advising and consulting with companies and their employees in the areas of retirement savings and employee benefits. He has spoken and moderated at many local and national tax and retirement plan conferences. As a member of American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries, he serves on several national advisory committees whose function is to interface with governmental agencies that regulate and oversee the retirement plan industry. Back the PACK Day - Thursday October 13, 2011

What is IFAPAC

The Insurance and Financial Advisors Political Action Committee (IFAPAC) is a term used to describe

collectively the PAC sponsored by NAIFA at the federal level and the PACs sponsored by each state

association. Each PAC is a fund that supports the campaigns of candidates for public office who understand

issues important to insurance agents and financial advisors. IFAPAC’s goal is to help the associations

advance the legislative and regulatory interests of the members of NAIFA.. While any U.S. citizen can

contribute to IFAPAC, only members of local NAIFA associations may be solicited to do so, though

contributions must be voluntary. Of approximately 4,600 political action committees registered with the

Federal Election Commission, IFAPAC is the largest insurance PAC in the country. In the last election

cycle, the national IFAPAC contributed approximately $1.1 million to federal candidates and committees.

The IFAPAC network is needed in all years, even when there aren't federal elections. The candidate

evaluation and support processes go on all the time. PACs that have the resources to make contributions

when candidates need them most are highly visible in the political arena. IFAPAC also occasionally makes

debt-retirement contributions following elections and some states hold elections in odd-numbered years.

Our talented and experienced staff and volunteers engage decision makers at every level of the legislative

and regulatory system. NAIFA's government affairs staff monitors federal legislation and mobilizes resources

to achieve the most favorable outcome for members and their clients. The constituent and staff lobbying

effort is strengthened by both our industry-leading political action committee, known as the Insurance and

Financial Advisors Political Action Committee (IFAPAC), and the Advisors Political Involvement Committee

(APIC), our grassroots network of members who have developed relationships with virtually every member

of Congress.

At the state level, our state associations work hand in hand with NAIFA's national law department to

positively impact state legislation and regulation. They develop lobbying strategies, comment on key issues,

implement uniform policies and participate in litigation. Our many successes have hinged on NAIFA's

favorable relationships with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), the National

Conference of Insurance Legislators (NCOIL), the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL), and

the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws (NCCUSL).

If you are contacted by one of “Your” IFAPAC volunteers - please remember that they are working for you!

Remember each “One” can make a difference – You can make a difference!

Medicare Open Enrollment Period Starts Sooner and Ends Earlier

What is the Medicare open enrollment period?

The Medicare open enrollment period is the time during which people with Medicare can make new choices and pick plans that work best for them. Each year Medicare plans typically change what they cost and cover. In addition, your health-care needs may have changed over the past year. The open enrollment period is your opportunity to switch Medicare health and prescription drug plans to better suit your needs.

When does the open enrollment period start?

This year, the Medicare open enrollment period begins earlier than in prior years. Open enrollment starts on October 15 and runs through December 7 (previously, open enrollment ran from November 15 through December 31). Any changes made during open enrollment are effective as of January 1, 2012.

What should you do?

Now is a good time to review your current Medicare plan. There are some factors you may want to consider as part of that evaluation. For instance, are you satisfied with the coverage and level of care you're getting with your current plan? Are you able to see the medical professionals of your choice, or are you restricted as to the staff and facilities you're able to use?

Are your premium costs or out-of-pocket expenses too high? For example, Medicare Part B and Part D premiums can increase if your income exceeds a certain level. On the other hand, if you have a Medigap or Medicare Supplement plan, you may find that your out-of-pocket costs are increasing due to co-payments and deductibles. If you are enrolled in a Medicare Advantage or Part C plan, those benefits and costs may change as well.

Has your health changed, or do you anticipate needing medical care or treatment? Now is the time to determine if your current plan will cover your treatment and what your potential out-of-pocket costs may be. If your current plan doesn't meet your health-care needs or fit within your budget, you can switch to a plan that may work better for you.

Where can you get more information?

Determining what coverage you have now and comparing it to other Medicare plans can be confusing and complicated. Pay attention to notices you receive from Medicare and from your plan, and take advantage of help available by calling 1-800-MEDICARE or by visiting the Medicare website, www.medicare.gov.

On Wednesday morning, August 31, 2011 at 9:40 am, Memphis Police Department’s Raines Station Task Force Officer Jeremy Mackey was on patrol in the Pepper Tree

Apartment Complex, which is located in Whitehaven. He observed smoke and large flames coming from an apartment located at 4334 Eastwind. Officer Mackey immediately

notified the Memphis Police dispatcher and began evacuating residents from the building. Officer Mackey then went to the upstairs unit which was engulfed in flames and rescued 34 year old Tony Smith, who had been overcome by smoke. Tony Smith advised Officer Mackey that his mother Mrs. Faye Smith was still inside the apartment. Officer Russell

Cathey quickly arrived on the scene to assist. As Officer Mackey was carrying Tony Smith down the stairs to safety, he advised Officer Cathey that there was a female still inside the burning apartment. Officer Cathey, without hesitation immediately went inside the fully

engulfed residence to save Mrs. Faye Smith. Officer Cathey observed the female inside the apartment and called to her. The smoke was dense and Officer Cathey had to retreat

momentarily to clear his lungs. Officer Cathey then went back inside the apartment and rescued Mrs. Faye Smith who was observed on the floor. Mrs. Smith was treated on the scene

and later transported to the Med Burn Unit. Tony Smith suffered second and third degree burns and was transported to The Med. Both Mrs. Faye Smith and Mr. Tony Smith

are recovering from their injuries.

Both Officers Jeremy Mackey and Russell Cathey worked with great zeal, bravery and selflessness, without thought of danger or their personal safety, to save the lives

of citizens they were sworn to protect. It is because of their actions that this family survived. The Memphis Police Department’s Raines Station Commanders are so appreciative

to have officers such as these working with us. Officers Mackey and Cathey’s actions reflect their professionalism and dedication to service.

We are all very proud of these two outstanding officers.
