In digital era, the wonderful world of “Business Analytics” has emerged. Business Analytics refers to the skill, technologies, application and practices used by business organisations to gain insight into their past performance and consequently to drive futuristic business planning. There is immense scope of application of Analytics virtually to any business & business process right from a company dealing in a niche product, a monopoly or competitive market. However, degree and volume of its application vary from business to business. A business like financial services, telecom, retail, travel, logistics, gaming, hospitality etc. generates a lot of transaction data which are clearly more amenable to analytics than others. In Business Analytics, a process followed which is similar to scientific methods by using tools and techniques to turn data into meaningful business insights. The process always start with business problems like optimising pricing to boost revenue, segment customers to tailor product offers, pinpoint bottlenecks in supply chain etc. Firstly, analyse the problem and then use the following types of Analytics: DESCRIPTIVE ANALYTICS - What happened? PREDICTIVE ANALYTICS - What might happen? PRESCRIPTIVE ANALYTICS - What should we do? In India, the interest and awareness to Business Analytics has been quit a recent phenomenon. Indian Industry by and large has wake-up to the fact of creating extensive business databases with an idea of helping managers at all levels to make strategic decision in a precise manner. For Business Analytics, the basic requirement is of availability of digital data and analysing the same with various digital tools to complete the whole process step – by – step to finally arrive at recommendations to achieve the goal. In our country, widespread use of Computers and Internet has led to explosion of data availability for such purpose. Analytics is one of the fastest growing segments in the KPO (Knowledge Process Outsourcing) industry in our country. Business Analytics has emerged as a solution to help companies synthesise data that can be applied for the benefit of the business by overcoming a challenge of proper harnessing the data. Analytics can range from a simple evaluation of sales achieved in preceding year for a particular product, employee turnover in that year to a complex mathematical model predicting which customer to target for the next year’s marketing campaign.
