PRESIDENT’S CORNER It's a truism that time flies when you're having fun. Perhaps that's why the months of Summer 2012 have just whizzed by. September's arrival reminds us that another ski season is just around the corner! It's time for our monthly membership

meetings to resume, time to check out the condition of our gear (local ski swap dates

are posted in this issue) and time to start getting ourselves into shape for a fun, accident-free season on the slopes

(we're planning to offer skier condition- ing classes again this fall). It's also time to

sign up for one or more of our ski trips, and it will soon be time to purchase your discounted Roundtop passes or night club cards. And this is just the beginning! I hope you've had a chance by now to check out SSC's Meetup page: Snowboard-Club/. Sign up now (there's no cost to join) and start using SSC Meetup to stay in touch with your friends' plans, and by the time ski season starts, it should be a handy tool to plan get-togethers on the slopes. Many thanks to the folks who stepped forward to run weekend trips for SSC this coming season. We will start shar- ing details of these trips in coming issues of Chairlift Chatter, at our membership meetings, and of course on our website. Congratulations, Sue Leonard, for being recognized re- cently by the area chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society as their 2012 Ski4Life Hero. Sue recruited over 50 volunteers for the 2012 Ski4Life event and organized fund- raising efforts by SSC teams and her own family's team. The honors are well-deserved, Sue. Thank you for all you do! Last but not least, we still have an opening for a market- ing/publicity chair. If you'd like to help the Board get the word out to the public about our club, please contact me at 717-507-7196 or [email protected]

Tuesday, September 4, 7 pm The first membership meeting of the 2012-13 season will be held on Tuesday, September 4 at our new location, Gullifty’s Underground in the Cedar Cliff Mall, 1104 Carlisle Road, Camp Hill. Recently remodeled, Gullifty's offers us a larger venue plus all of their great food, spirits and friendly service. Make sure to take advantage of their happy hour from 5-7 pm featuring half-priced drinks and food specials. We look forward to seeing you as we kick off the new season in a "new" location! The brief business portion of our meeting will commence at 7 pm. The evening's program will feature our 2012-13 trips and trip leaders and an additional surprise announcement. Our trip leaders will also be on hand before and after the meeting to answer your questions about their trips and to take your application and deposit. Don't forget to bring your checkbook! WOLF SANCTUARY & CORNWALL FURNACE TOURS ~ Saturday, October 13 Plan to join your SSC friends about 11:15 am to register for the noon tour of the Pennsylvania Wolf Sanctuary, located near Cornwall and Brickerville. Our guide will take us on a walking tour around the 22 acres of enclosures where we will meet many of the 40-plus rescued wolves who call the sanctuary home. The guide will answer our questions during our 90-minute tour. Admission is $12 - adults, $11 - seniors, $10 - child. We will then drive six miles, where we will step back in time as we visit the Cornwall Iron Furnace, a National Historic Landmark! Built in 1742 by Peter Grubb, it is the ONLY SURVIVING cold-blast furnace in the western hemisphere, boasting a 24-foot steam-powered gear! It ceased operations in 1883. Admission is $6 - adults, $5.50 - seniors & AAA, $4 - juniors. After the tours, all are welcome to a wine & cheese reception at the home of board member Terri Falk, located 1/4 mile from the Cornwall Furnace, and one of the original limestone/sandstone homes built for the workers of the Cornwall furnace and mine.
