One of the missions of this Club is to provide charitable programs to support our towns. We are proud to continue its charitable mission each month during our monthly luncheon plus the

extraordinary fund raising activities this year through the fashion show, golf tournament, and the Murder Mystery Dinner. During 2017 from our monthly luncheons, we have provided to

the following Cape Cod charities: Homeless not Hopeless, ALS Foundation, Carriage House, Cape Cod Challenge Club, Habitant for Humanity, Razia's Ray of Hope Foundation, Inde-

pendence House, Housing Assistance, and the Falmouth Service Center. Thank you to all our members for your support! Thank you, Sue White, for leading our charitable mission!

MWC Charitable Mission

An important part of our charitable mission is the 50/50 raffle that we hold at each monthly luncheon. The recipi-

ent of the 50/50 raffle is a Cape Cod charity suggested by our members. Any MWC member can submit a sug-gestion for a charity that is a 501(c)(3) charity. It will have a chance to win the 50/50. If you have a charity you

would like to suggest, please complete the following form and bring it to the next meeting or email the infor-

mation to Sue White (her contact information is in the directory).

PLEASE NOTE: 1) The charity must be a Cape Cod charity and must be a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) charity;

2) THE FORM MUST BE FILLED OUT COMPLETELY IN ORDER FOR IT TO BE INCLUDED IN THE DRAW-

ING.

The Mashpee Women’s Club hosts a luncheon on the third Tuesday of each month. The cost is $25 for mem-

bers and $28 for guests. Checks payable to the Mash-

pee Women’s Club should be mailed to Mashpee Wom-en’s Club, P.O. Box 1613, Mashpee, MA 02649 to ar-

rive at least 7 days before the luncheon. Luncheons

are held on the third Tuesday of each month at the New Seabury Country Club at noon each month unless not-

ed differently.

As always, Sue Riley continues to take donations for the Mashpee Food Pantry at every luncheon. Cash do-

nations preferred but products are also always appreci-

ated. The food pantry let us know that for every $100 in cash they receive, they can purchase ap-

proximately $1,000 worth of products because of

their bulk quantity purchasing power! That’s some great return on our investment!

A segment at each monthly luncheon includes a five-minute “Getting to Know You” (GTKY) presentation

prior to the luncheon program introducing a community speaker from a local organization or business.

Upcoming Luncheon Programs

Recent Happenings!

Past Luncheon Programs January 16 — Mike Looney, Chef William Stoloski, and their culinary and art and media communications stu-dents from Mashpee Middle/ High School's Career and

Technical Education Depart-ment updated them about the current and future use of new equipment purchased with the $12,000 donation from the Mashpee Women’s Club. A cold storage unit was purchased for the culinary program, and 3 editing suites

were purchased for the new TV Studio in the high school's learning commons. These kids are our future. What a gift to be able to donate to the CTE program!

February 20 — Our February luncheon and program was outstanding! Ellen Spear, President & CEO of Heritage Museum and Gardens, gave us a won-derful taste of the magnificent grounds and trails at the Heritage Museum and Gardens. It is a horticultural treasure with over 100 acres, and it has a nationally

recognized collection of rhododendron, over 1,000 vari-eties of day lilies, and an extensive hosta collection. The grounds include three gallery buildings, one con-taining a world class collection of automobiles, an American Folk Art collection and a working 1919 carousel.

Our Getting You to Know speaker, new owner Amanda Frisone, joined us from Cape Kids with gifts and apparel in the most sought after styles around -- sizes newborn to twelve years of age -- at Mashpee Com-

mons. She lives in Mashpee with her hus-band and two daughters and family dogs Max and Chubs. Amanda's love for her family and love for the Cape is what in-spires the designers she chooses to carry.

Our wonderful luncheon would not be right without the beautiful centerpieces from our members Kitty Holt and Gail Reilly. They

were stunning!

March 20 — Kathy Aspden, author of Baklava, Biscot-ti, and an Irishman, toured us through Greece, Italy, and the Massachusetts coastline from her view and that

A NEW GROUP FOR THE MASHPEE

WOMEN'S CLUB: Cultural Events.

The cultural events group will meet

monthly to enjoy a play, concert, gal-

lery, or some other type of cultural entertainment. Be-cause most of these events are on the weekend, we will

usually meet on Friday evenings. You will have the

choice of attending dinner before the event as well. This group is being hosted by Diane Mahoney, Mary

O'Connor, and Sheila Salomon. We are excited about

our new group, and we welcome your participation! If you have any questions, please email to Diane at

[email protected]. Its first event was in March for

dinner at Villagio’s followed at the Cotuit Center for the Arts to see Jesus Christ Superstar. About 15 or so from

the MWC had a great evening!

We are excited to announce that our next event will be on Saturday April 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the Cultural

Center of Cape Cod at 307 Old Main Street in South

Yarmouth. Fellswater, Boston's Celtic ensemble, will be performing with vocals and unique instruments such as

the whistle, bagpipes, and mandolin, among others. Be-

cause the seating is not assigned, you can purchase your tickets on the website at the Cultural Center of

Cape Cod. The cost is $20, $18 for members. Prior to

the event, we will meet for dinner at the Riverway Lob-ster House at 5 pm. The Riverway has an extensive

early bird menu until 5:30 p.m.

The deadline for sign up for this event is April 20. After you have purchased your ticket, you will need to

notify us by email of your purchase so that we will have

a final count for the restaurant reservation (please email

to Diane at [email protected]). Looking forward to another spectacular evening!

Diane, Sheila, and Mary. Cultural Events Coordinators

A special thank you to all the ladies

who have made our luncheons look

so beautiful with their spectacular centerpieces! We appreciate all the

time and effort that goes into those

creations. Well done ladies! Thank you to all who participate. The commitment is only once

a year, and MWC pays for all supplies. If anyone is in-

terested in helping please contact Laura Kuzia or Car-olyn Holmes

Our nine book groups are growing by leaps and bounds. The cold

weather has not held us back from

our meetings; in fact, It has made the winter go by faster and more en-

joyable by getting together and discussing our books.

Of course, we do miss our snow bird members and are anxiously awaiting their return. We are making plans for

our December luncheon so if you have any ideas

please bring it to your group leader. All of the leaders are meeting soon. Book club two read 40 Autumns by

of Baklava, Biscotti, and an Irishman. Kathy shared us with her childhood and family from Dorchester, Boston, Quincy, and Scituate, areas from which she culled into her book. Thank you, Kathy, and I particularly en-joyed hearing about your

grandmother!

Our Getting You to Know speaker, Maureen Gardner, Executive Director of Laurentide at Mashpee Commons, updated

us on the new senior living community at Laurentide. Its state-of-the-art community is currently scheduled to open Summer 2018, and will offer independent living, assisted living and the specialized Avita Memory Care program.

Many thanks to Sue Riley for the lovely centerpieces! Many of us (including me!) wanted to win one, but unfortunately, on-ly a few were able to win! The 50/50 was donated to go to Cape Abilities.

Couples dining is a great way to get

to know other Mashpee Women's Club members and their spouses.

We meet together at each other's

houses; our menus are planned by the group so that everyone's palate can be satisfied. It's

a wonderful way to cement new friendships on the Cape.

We have added another foursome to the couples dining group. Enjoy your dinners together and your newfound

friendships!

Knitting Club #1 has continued to knit

through the winter and spring to get ready for the May MWC program to

support the Baby Center in Hyannis.

Items being “whipped up” by our mem-bers include blankets, small car blankets, hats, and

sweaters. Besides our charity knitting we are working on

our own projects, collaborating and sharing patterns, helping each other when we get “stuck.” Through knit-

ting we are getting to know each other and delight in

sharing our “stories.”
