WEEK IN MAY

The wood smells delicious. The delicate scent of bluebells drifts across, overwhelming me, bringing tears to my eyes. The sharp and savoury aroma of the crisp garlic leaves blendswith the warm wood, and earth, and in the sunshinemy spirit expands into the essence of the day.A pair of peacock butterflies makes a stunning flight, fluttering and dancing together around the bluebells in a sunlit glade.

Brackens and ferns continue to gradually unfurl. Herb roberts sends out hisred stalked lacy leaves, and deep blue bugle stands robustwhere early purple orchids fade and weaken.Bog valerian and bitter-cress, confusingly similar, scatter over the damper ground.Broad leaves of foxglove and melancholy thistle slowly developtheir size and strength . . . and still the primroses and wood sorrel flower on . . .and on, getting floppy and lost now under fresher growth of the newcomers.
