OFFICIAL SELECTION Young European filmmakers are invited to Angers to present their first films to the audience, industry professionals, and press. 82 films in 6 official categories are screened. 200,000 euros in awards are given out by juries and the public at the end of the festival. Films are screened out of competition in two other selection categories: « Free Form» and « Next Shots. » Q & A with the directors: every day, the Festival gives the directors of the films in competition a chance to meet the public, respond to questions and share their experience.

THE PRESIDENT OF JURY : LUCAS BELVAUX

Lucas Belvaux was born in Belgium and became known to French audiences in Yves Boisset’s film Allons z’enfants in 1980. As an actor he made films as varied as La Truite by Joseph Losey, Désordre (Disorder) by Olivier Assayas, which was produced by Claude-Eric Poiroux, Hurlevent (Wuthering Heights) by Jacques Rivette and Poulet au vinaigre by Claude Chabrol for which he was nominated for the César for most promising actor. In 1991, he went behind the camera to direct his first feature Parfois trop d’amour, then Pour rire ! (Just for Laughs!) in 1996, but it was with his trilogy Cavale (One: On the Run), Un couple épatant (Two: An Amazing Couple), and Après la vie (After Life) that he became noticed. He was nominated for the César for Best Director and won the Prix Louis-Delluc in 2003. His following film La Raison du plus faible was selected in the official competition of the Cannes Film Festival in 2006. Lucas Belvaux was a member of the jury of the 1

st edition of the Festival Premiers

Plans in 1989. His new film, Rapt, with Yvan Attal, was released in the autumn of 2009.
