Civil Rights Audit Results Released The Pennsylvania Department of Education conducted an on-site civil rights audit of the college in September and

recently released the results. The Bureau of Career and Technical Education selected the college for the audit. The evaluator, Cynthia Gross, visited the Schnecksville campus and Allentown and Tamaqua sites at the end of September. The purpose of the audit was to confirm that the college was adhering to applicable laws, not the result of a complaint.

The letter of finding states that the college is commended for numerous areas, including: documentation related to its facilities, for its work to update the policy manual reflecting current legislation and procedures within the college, and for its awareness and emphasis on providing access and services for all individuals. The reviewer stated that the online accessibility complaint form is a best practice demonstrating how institutions can be more responsive to the needs of all individuals.

The audit evaluated a range of services including physical facilities, student access to services and web accessibility. The audit identified noncompliance issues related to physical accessibility in labs and restrooms, formalized procedures

for effective communication with students who have limited English language skills and adding a language translation feature on the website.

The college will submit a Voluntary Compliance Plan by Dec. 15 to explain how we are correcting noncompliance issues. Currently, the college is modifying physical areas to meet the needs of students with physical disabilities, is contracting with a language translation service to communicate with students with limited English and has added a translation feature to the web.

Halloween Contest Winners

LCCC held a well-attended Halloween Costume Contest for students and staff/faculty on Oct. 31, in conjunction with the Spirit Committee’s Halloween Decorating Contest for college offices.

LCCC Holds Fall Open HouseMore than 230 prospective students attended the Fall Open House,

for a total of 606 people including family members and friends who attended. That’s a five percent increase in attendees compared with fall 2017. The Admissions Office thanks everyone who contributed to the success of the event.

Military Bingo RecapLCCC’s Military Bingo event on Nov. 10 raised over $3,000 for

the Veteran Health Program at Lehigh Valley Health Network and the LCCC scholarship fund for a veteran or military student. There were more than 160 people in attendance and Max Harris, chief business development officer at Netizen Corp., was the bingo caller. Hyde, the service dog from Tails of Valor, was also a big hit. Thanks to everyone who made the event a success, including the 15 volunteers and our sponsor, Netizen Corp.

Celebrating Career Development November is National Career Development Month, and the

Career Development Center at LCCC celebrated at the main campus Nov. 14 with a candy buffet and photo booth, which allowed students to take a photo for LinkedIn or other social media.

Pediatrics Nursing Class Promotes Healthy Teeth

LCCC’s nursing class participated in a recent Teaching Learning Project. The students dressed up as germs, toothbrushes, teeth, the tooth fairy, doctors, fruits and exercise trainers, and presented to the class as if they were presenting to preschool and grade school-aged children.

National Cyber League RankingThe National Cyber League competition included several LCCC winners. LCCC student Will Conway placed in the gold

division, a first for the college. Conway ranked 346 out of 4,729 participants overall and 246 out of 506 participants in the gold bracket.

David Dorosh placed in the silver division, ranking number 440 out of 4,729 participants overall and 121 out of the 1,180 participants in the silver bracket. Michal Szlagiewicz and Paige Cuenca both made it into the bronze bracket.
