COURSE DESCRIPTIONThis program will emphasize new disease management guidelines in various subspecialties; discuss practical issues for primary care providers; provide updates on current trends in internal medicine; and introduce new therapies and information relative to the treatment of patients. Course format will include lectures, question and answer periods, discussions, workshops, and case presentation sessions.

TARGET AUDIENCEThis continuing medical education activity is appropriate for healthcare providers in the areas of Primary Care, Family Medicine, Family Practice, General Practice, Internal Medicine, PAs, and Nurse Practitioners.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES This activity addresses the Medical Knowledge and Patient Care ACGME/ABMS competencies.Upon conclusion of this program participants should be able to:

Evaluate and manage: Mental health issues; giant cell arteritis with highlights on important extra cranial features; ADHD in the primary care setting; thyroid nodules; microscopic hematuria; treatments options of thrombosis in acute ischemic stroke; pancreatic cysts; acne, eczema and common rashes; overactive bladder.

Review: current guidelines for cholesterol; clinical manifestations of Lyme Disease; important factors in managing C Diff to avoid recurrence; Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR); urgent care updates; best practices in the management of chronic pain and how to not use opioids; and evaluate EKG readings.

Identify and understand: the newest recommendations and guidelines regarding hypertension management; the most common types of headaches and their available treatments.

Discuss: Risk factors and treatment options for sleep apnea; current treatment options for Hepatitis C; examination skills of the hips and shoulders; cardiac versus non-cardiac causes of syncope; influenza pathogenesis; importance of vaccinations in prevention.

AMERICAN BOARD OF INTERNAL MEDICINE (ABIM) – MAINTENANCE OF CERTIFICATIONSuccessful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 14.25 MOC in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC points.

Directions from the Hartford area:Route 84 East to Route 90 East (Mass Pike) to 290 East to 495 North to 95 North. Follow directions above.

Directions from the Portland area:Maine Turnpike South to Wells Exit 19. Left after toll booth onto Route 109 to Route 1 South to Ogunquit. At center of town, bear left on Shore Road. Go 3 miles.
