Mahatma Narayan Das Grover was born on 15th November 1923 at Isakhel in Pakistan. He had the proud privilege to be the founder Principal of D.A.V. College, Abohar, Distt. – Firozepurserved as the Principal of Dayanand Post Graduate College, Hissar (Haryana) from 1977 to 1982. He also served as President of DAVCMC, New Delhi. The event will be comprised of

1: Fourth National Inter School Debate,

2: Fifth Inter School Quiz and

3: First Edition of Inter School Creative Writing Competition

The School can participate in any one or all the events as per their convenience

GENERAL RULES FOR DEBATE:

1: Open to students from std. 9 to 12. Each school can send one team for the competition.

� Team of two students plus one � There will be a preliminary round

from which two teams will qualify for finals

Preliminary round:

· The preliminary round will be a combination of extempore and turncoat debate involving all the schools. Both the speakers will stand on the stage and each one will speak their respective genres.

· ONE student will speak in the extempore section and the other in the turn-coat debate.

· In the extempore round each speaker will be given 2 minutes (After 1.5 minutes there will be a warning bell. The final bell will go after the motion) on a topic given on spot. The speaker picks up a topic from the bowl on the stage and starts his/her speech.

· The speaker who would not speak in the extempore would take part in a round of TURNCOAT DEBATE. In a TURNCOAT DEBATE format- a person has to speak both for the motion and against the motion.

There are THREE (3) topics for the Turncoat Debate. Please prepare all the topics. Any one of these topics will be allotted to each team:

1: This house believes that technology has ended the right to privacy.

2: This house believes that true democracy can only be non-violent.

3: This house believes that true legacy of a leader is remembered in sustainable programmes and not by constructing memorials. Time Limit for the speaker 1.5 + 1.5= 3 minutes (1.5 mins for proposition and 1.5 for the opposition).

Seven schools will qualify for the semi-finals. From the semi-finals top four schools will qualify for the finals.

· Written elimination round will be from 10:00 am to 10:30 am. There will be 23 questions in the elimination round. There will be no negative marking scheme or speed rounds in the elimination or the final round.

· The decision of the quiz master shall be final and binding.

· Prizes will be given to top three

schools and an individual prize for the best quizzard.

CREATIVE WRITING- ‘Create a Poem’ RULES FOR THE EVENT:

· TWO participants from each school (Open For Grades 9 to 12)

· THREE topics will be given on spot. These will be an image to be shown on the screen or a printout of the image that will be made available to the participants.

· A participant will choose a topic and will write a poem. Language of the poem: English. The poem cannot exceed more than 18 lines.

draft, second draft and the final draft of

the poem. Along with his final poem, he

has to submit the first two drafts to show

how be crafted the poem after leaving

out unnecessary words, phrases and extra details. The evolution and the journey of the poem will be marked and not just the poem itself.

� Time 1 Hour. � Total marks for ‘craft a

poem’: 100. The marking criterion is:

B: Language Flow and choice of words (25)

C: Use of word-images and experimentation with language (25) D: Relevance of the word usage from a reader’s perspective (25)
