This program is appropriate for practitioners during their first 5 years of practice. It will assist junior lawyers seeking a practical foundation or more experienced lawyers wanting to revisit the fundamentals or develop an interest in the area of criminal law.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
PLENARY SESSION In this program, noted judges and senior counsel will review sentencing procedural considerations, use of evidence, strategy, and approach during a hearing.
This program will help equip you with the skills and knowledge to:• Understand the legislation and case law governing sentencing
and sentencing hearings,• Develop a strategic approach to sentencing,• Prepare a file for a contested sentencing hearing, and• Conduct a sentencing hearing.
SKILLS TRAINING WORKSHOP Attend the optional skills training workshop on Saturday afternoon to apply what you learned in the morning plenary session. In this workshop, you will engage in hands-on demonstrations and receive feedback and practical pointers from judiciary and senior counsel.
