Strategic Plan of SC B1
Technical Directions The technical strategies of SC B1 for the ten years to come are fully aligned on the four
Technical directions adopted by the Technical Committee:
The Future Power System
Environment and Sustainability
Information for technical and non
technical audiencies
Best Use of the Existing System
-
Technical Direction 1
In Electra 256 dated June 2011, a CIGRE white paper titled ELECTRICITY SUPPLY SYSTEMS OF THE FUTURE detailed the Ten Technical Issues associated to thisprospect.
-
The 10 Technical Issues TI1:Active Distribution Networks resulting in bidirectional flows within distribution level and to
the upstream network TI2:The application of advanced metering and resulting massive need for exchange of
information TI3:The growth in the application of HVDC and power electronics at all voltage levels and its
impact on power quality, system control, and system security, and standardisation TI4:The need for the development and massive installation of energy storage systems, and the
impact this can have on the power system development and operation. TI5:New concepts for system operation and control to take account of active customer
interactions and different generation types TI6:New concepts for protection to respond to the developing grid and different characteristics
of generation TI7:New concepts in planning to take into account increasing environmental constraints, and
new technology solutions for active and reactive power flow control TI8:New tools for system technical performance assessment, because of new Customer,
Generator and Network characteristics TI9:Increase of right of way capacity and use of overhead, underground and subsea
infrastructure, and its consequence on the technical performance and reliability of the network TI10: An increasing need for keeping Stakeholders aware of the technical and commercial
consequences and keeping them engaged during the development of the network of the future.

Activities of SC B1 towards Strandardization IEC TC 20 is one of the major Target Groups of SC B1: the Customer Advisory Group of
SC B1 is Target Group oriented
It is one of the very first priorities of SC B1 to have a strong and efficient liaison with IEC TC 20: this is stated in SC B1 Strategic Plan and approved by CIGRE TC Chairman
Strategic decisions of SC B1 are made in Strategic Advisory Group meetings
The B1 Strategic Advisory Group meetings prepare the recommendations for future activity of SC B1
Next meeting of SC B1 SAG meeting is scheduled in early march 2015: expectations fromTC 20 will be taken into account at this time
One member of the Strategic Advisory Group of SC B1 is dedicated to this liaison: Pierre Mirebeau (France)
SCB1 is available and ready to produce recommendations for further Standardization
TC 20 is permanently invited to attend annual SCB1 meetings
Any measure to stengthen our relation is welcome
