PRESENTING – CABS
Croydon Auto Bike Scheme (CABS)
The CABS project has been running in Croydon for over 17 years. It has had significant successes over the years, has a well-‐established footprint in the community and is highly respected by local agencies and residents alike. We offer aLracMve programmes of acMviMes that uses motorbikes as a tool to engage posiMvely with young people. CABS has an excellent track record for engaging with some of the hardest to reach young people and helping them to break the cycle of anM-‐social and criminal behaviour. CABS offers commissioners spot or full course purchase opportuniMes: Accredited programmes include two key areas: The motorbike – Our workshop approach enables young people to learn about the motorbike (such as basic engine maintenance, the carbureLor, suspension, wheels and bearings). Young people are supported to learn about safety, riding skills and the consequences of illegal behaviours; the course includes a day trip to our specialist off-‐road motorbike track.
Life and work – The course integrates pracMcal acMviMes with life and employability skills including opMonal AQA accreditaMons, CV wriMng, job search and basic work skills (such as Mme keeping, health and safety, first aid and appropriate work wear). The programme covers a range of health and well-‐being subjects including drugs, alcohol and relaMonships. Young people are also taught the importance of ‘boundaries’ as they are required to work in a safe and appropriate fashion.
Current acMviMes include bespoke schools packages, Youth offending and Safer neighbourhood teams referral scheme and Borough Road safety projects and informal drop-‐In and clubs nights. Off road track days and events are at arranged at dedicated track. Currently our funders for this project include 8 schools, Croydon and Community Fund, Palace for Life Founda:on and an anonymous donor (managed by CAF).
