• Traditional Production Standards

– 14 CFR Part 21 §21.21: normal, utility, acrobatic, commuter, and transport category aircraft; manned free balloons; special classes; aircraft engines; propellers

– §21.24; primary category– §21.25; restricted category– §21.27; Armed Forces surplus (limited)– §21.29; import

• All but §21.27, aircraft must meet FAA requirements for a/w, noise, exhaust emissions, special conditions…

– Issued Standard A/W Certificate




• Airworthiness Certificates

– §21.183, Standard A/W Certificates– §21.184, 185, 187, 189 (Special primary, restricted, multiple,

limited) – §21.190, Light Sport

• Built to “consensus standards”• Issued Special A/W Certificate

– §21.191, Experimental Certificates• No design standards• Issued for certain purposes: R&D, Show Compliance, Crew
