A little bit of SCC history:

• Southeast Community College was first organized in 1973.

• Today, it has an overall enrollment of approximately 9,000 students. There are 50 different programs of study with several additional areas of focus available within a program.

• The Academic Transfer program began at the Lincoln campus in 1994 . Prior to that, it was offered only in Beatrice.

The Birth of aTransfer Program…

• The Academic Transfer program at SCC started out very small, with the Dean of Academic Education serving as the only advisor.

• As the program grew, full-time faculty members were required to assume advising duties as well, following the model of all other programs on campus.

• Eventually, one faculty member was given release time from instructional duties to coordinate all advising duties.

Growing Up Fast!• As the program grew in numbers and complexity, full-

time Academic Advisors were hired to work specifically with transfer students.

• An Academic Advising Center was formed in 2002 and staffed with 3 professional advisors. The Advising Center is housed in the same location as faculty offices.

• In 2003 all campuses at SCC adopted the 10-week quarter system. There are 4 10-week quarters in the academic year.

Why are Students Coming to SCC?

SCC transfer students are attending our school because:• Planning to transfer directly to a 4-year school• Not successful at a 4-year school and need a fresh start• Clearing up admissions deficiencies• Full time students at a 4-year school picking up some extra

classes• Taking prerequisite courses for a vocational two-year degree• Class schedule is accommodating • Students can earn an Associate of Arts or Science degree

Credits from SCC transfer very well throughout the state and nation.
