How to measure blood pressure ?
Blood pressure when the
heart beats is called systolic
pressure.
Blood pressure when the heart is at rest is called
diastolic pressure.
When blood pressure is
measured, the systolic pressure
is stated first and the diastolic pressure second.
Blood pressure is measured in millimeters of mercury (mm Hg). For example, if a person's systolic pressure
is 120 and diastolic pressure is 80, it is written as 120/80 mm Hg.

Categories of Blood Pressure
Normal Blood Pressure •Your blood pressure is normal if it's below 120/80 mm Hg.
Pre-Hypertension •Pre-hypertension is a systolic pressure ranging from 120 to 139 mm Hg or a diastolic pressure ranging from 80 to 89 mm Hg.
Stage 1 Hypertension •Stage 1 hypertension is a systolic pressure ranging from 140 to 159 mm Hg or a diastolic pressure ranging from 90 to 99 mm Hg.
Stage 2 Hypertension •The most severe hypertension, stage 2 hypertension is a systolic pressure of 160 mm Hg or higher or a diastolic pressure of 100 mm Hg or higher.

Types of hypertension:
Primary (Essential) Hypertension:
•In 90 to 95 percent of high blood pressure cases in adults, there's no identifiable cause.
Secondary Hypertension:
•The other 5 to 10 percent of high blood pressure cases are caused by an underlying condition.
![Page 7: Presented By : S.M.Shaheryar (0512138) Presented By : S.M.Shaheryar (0512138)](https://reader036.fdocuments.in/reader036/viewer/2022062511/551b4b1c550346d41a8b5c8f/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
Symptoms:
• Most people with high blood pressure have no signs or symptoms, even if blood pressure readings reach dangerously high levels.
• Although a few people with early-stage high blood pressure may have dull headaches, dizzy spells or a few more nosebleeds than normal, these signs and symptoms typically don't occur until high blood pressure has reached an advanced even life-threatening stage.

Role of Bioinformatics
SPHYGMOMANOMETER•An inflatable cuff on the upper arm to nullify the arterial pulse and measure blood pressure
Zona Plus Hypertension Relief Device• Which helps individuals lower high blood pressure naturally through breath control, this device uses monitored isometric gripping exercise based on Air Force observations of fighter pilots in training.
DietMate•DietMate is a convenient, hand-held computer that guides you through a proven program of weight loss, cholesterol reduction, and hypertension control.
Electrocardiogram (ECG): A test that measures your heart's electrical activity. More extensive testing isn't usually needed, at least initially.
