Neil Fernandes, Managing Director of Perth Central Institute of Technology, approached us with a vision as part of Perth City’s strategic development leading up to the State’s bicentennial celebrations in 2029.

The proposal is to transform Museum Street into a green area with seating areas and foliage, to turn it into a cultural campus.

To develop the Perth Cultural Centre and Central’s buildings as a unified and vibrant entity – an Urban Culture Campus linked directly to Perth’s civic heart

– Forrest Place.

As Diploma of Public Relations students, we were requested to source and record community interest, valuable feedback, ideas and tangible opinions on this project

What If…

None of the students or staff were aware of the proposed project to transform Museum Street into a cultural green area for students and the public to gather.

Over the period of 4 hours our class interviewed and spoke to members of the faculty and students to gather their comments and opinions.

What If…

The current situation on Museum Street is dangerous for students when they are crossing between buildings – particularly for students with disabilities

There’s no feeling of connection between the buildings and therefore a lack of community spirit

There are very limited places for students and staff to socialise outside the College environment

Students feel there is an imbalance of concrete and green areas in Northbridge

What If…

Create a focal campus feel, so students and staff can feel part of something bigger than just a building

A safer environment for all students and staff alike Students were extremely enthusiastic at the

possibility of displaying their artwork and even holding events

A possible incentive for small businesses to set up (food vendors, café’s, drink stalls.)

To create a sustainable environment

Raise awareness amongst students and staff about the proposed plans and record their comments, via video, written word and email.

Our aim was to record 100 pieces of total feedback on a single day 28th July
