Your Job as Ethical Leader…
According to the National Council of Nonprofits: “The significance of ethical leadership is of course not limited to the charitable nonprofit sector, but we think nonprofit leaders have a special obligation to demonstrate their commitment to values such as accountability, compassion, honesty, service to others, transparency, and respect. (A little sense of humor goes a long way too!) Ethical leadership is an important way for charitable nonprofits to maintain the public’s trust.”
Your Job as Strategic Leader
• One with Great Vision • One Who Takes Action on Vision • One Who Owns Financial Prowess • One Who Fosters Relationships of Trust • One That Leaves a Legacy • One With the Ability to Inspire • One That Helps Others Achieve the Impossible
"If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader."
~President John Quincy Adams

The Destiny of the World…
“The destiny of the world is determined less by the battles lost and won,
than by the stories it loves and believes in.”
~Harold Goddard
Sometimes Leaders…and Their Stories… …Teach Us What NOT To Be!
“Things like lack of leadership and a lack of the willingness to evolve, they're so used to keeping people within the constraints of the idea that has been the same idea for a thousand years.” ~Ziggy Marley

Sir Fazle Hasan Abed
• Raised in British India, Abed left home in 1958 at age 18 to attend University of Glasgow in Scottland. To break from tradition, he chose a radically different career: naval architecture. Then he realized that particular profession offered little work near his home. Instead, he became an accountant in London.
• Returning to Bangladesh, he joined Shell Oil Company and quickly rose to head its finance division. His time at Shell gave him intensive insight into corporate management, especially of a large conglomerate.
• Suddenly in 1970, a devastating cyclone hit the south and south-eastern coastal regions of the country, killing 300,000 people.
In 2017, Abed was ranked 37 in
Fortune Magazine’s “The World's 50 Greatest
Leaders.”
• The cyclone had a profound effect on Abed. In the face of such devastation, the comforts and perks of a corporate executive's life ceased to have any attraction for him.
• Together with friends, Abed created HELP to provide relief and rehabilitation. They focused on the worst affected island of Manpura, which had lost three-quarters of its population.
• From there Abed began his work in BRAC, which now serves an estimated 126 million people with the help of more than 120,000 employees in Asia and Africa. Roughly 70% of those employed are women.

What Stories Will You Tell Yourself About Your Leadership Now?
And…Will You Work On Your Own Story?
Lead: Give ‘Em Wings
Lead: Give ‘Em Wings “Nonprofits that are serious about their own sustainability will also be serious about planning for smooth and thoughtful transitions of leadership - as well as making sure their nonprofit is prepared for unexpected departures.” “Unfortunately, according to BoardSource's most recent reports, only 34% of nonprofits surveyed reported that they had a written succession plan in place… Leaders who care about sustainability pay attention to ways they can support their own succession.”
~National Council of Nonprofits
