Administrative News
Dear Parents and Community Members:
The tough economic times that seem to continually effect all of our North Country schools has hit hard again
when planning budgets for next year. All schools are facing gaps in their budgets forcing superintendents to
make tough but necessary decisions to ensure these schools remain solvent both academically and financially.
Some of these factors negatively affecting school budgets include but are not limited to things like the Gap
Elimination Adjustment and the way the State’s foundation aid formula works. Because of these downwardly
adjusted state aid decisions almost all North Country school districts have had to make painful sacrifices in
their educational programs. These stop-gap measures; however, are not sustainable as all of us are seeing our
fund reserves dwindle quickly with some districts having burned through all their reserve funds. Harrisville
will eventually become another statistic of schools that become either academically or financially insolvent
unless some drastic changes are made to school funding.
Over the next month and half we will be discussing the budget for the 2014-2015 school year at our Board of
Education meetings, as well as, a couple of community budget discussions. I will also reach out to several larg-
er community organizations to attend their meetings to discuss the budget. We will post the dates of the budget
discussions on our webpage and uptown at different businesses.
Lastly, I want to thank the community for the endless support of the school and the programs we provide.
Cordially,
Rob Finster
Superintendent of Schools

Guidance Office News and Notes
SENIOR SECTION
College Scholarships: How can HCS Seniors get more information about
scholarships?
CHECK THE SCHOLARSHIP FILE (located under the sign-in desk in the Guidance Office)
EVERY WEEK!
Take a minute each morning to check the scholarship list posted outside the guidance office
~ it’s updated every couple of weeks.
Check your email! Mrs. Chartrand emails an updated scholarship list regularly to seniors
who have provided their email to our office.
Go to HCS website: Guidance: Scholarship Information.
Listen to daily announcements for current scholarships.
Check with college financial aid offices for campus scholarships (this information is often on
a college website as well).
Conduct a scholarship search on www.finaid.org, www.collegeboard.com or www.hesc.org
Note: Seniors are encouraged to apply for all scholarships they might qualify for – but it is up to each
senior to have all materials turned in by the deadline (indicated on each scholarship application).
College Acceptances: Congratulations! Seniors, remember to give the guidance
office a copy of your letter of acceptance so that we may post it on the bulletin board
outside the guidance office, and announce it in The Glances!
