How Sapienza development aid programs
are being financed • Sapienza university resources
University annual Balance (every year funds for development
aid programs, depending on budget availability, are normally

Sapienza university resources
• In 2009 and 2011 La Sapienza launched two calls for proposal to give support and funding to development aid programs;
• 2009 – 2011: 60.000,00 Euros to 9 programs;
• Main sectors: a) higher education programmes and capacity building actions in developing countries; b) assistance to partner Universities in developing countries (technologies, medical area) c) research programmes in developing countries;
• Main geographical areas: countries with low HDI index (UNDP Ranking 2011);
• Evaluation by a internal Comittee of Experts formally appointed by the Rector;

UN HABITAT and Sapienza: Millennium University
Studio Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2010
Financing: USD 30.000,00 UNHABITAT
Main aims:
a) implement student field studies and a studio work on the Lake Victoria Region
b) exposing students and academics from the North and the South to the work of a major development agency such as UNHABITAT
c) expanding the role and the scope of MDG based partnerships between Universities from the North and from the South and the UN system
When: start up: August, 2011 – end first session: december 2011
Beneficiaries:
• 10 Sapienza advanced level students and PhD candidates, coming from different disciplines, and at least 5 students from Universities located in the project area (Lake Victoria area)
• Main activities: strategic urban planning, enhancing municipal capacity for solid waste management, promotion of gender parity within the water and sanitation area, directing the students in participatory communication strategies,
• The results presented in international fora

All the structures involved in the activities of the project, such as
Escola da Coop, Altro Maè, Escola Comerciale Josina Machel,
Escola Especial n.1, Escola Especial n.2; all the students with
disabilities and their families; teachers involved in the different
phases of the project; the Ministry of Education of Mozambique.
The project involves different steps of research and intervention:
attitude analysis of teachers, parents and other key figures towards
the education of children with disabilities; the creation and the
training of focus groups with teachers of Mozambican educational
system; good practice analysis in inclusion classes.

University (CATUC) launch a new program:
Reinforcement of University Systems in West and
Central African Regions: International School for
Advanced Studies and Training in Applied Anthropology
in development Projects”
• Main aims: strengthening of academic programs and the
research capacities of partner universities as well as
improving and finalizing the training of teaching staff
• Target: 30 students
