Fordham Street Drainage Channel

Stabilization Design

Project Description:

• Existing drainage channel located in highly urbanized watershed has active erosion and provides minimal water quality treatment.

• Project will stabilize and improve the Fordham Street channel to provide both sediment and nutrient reduction.

• This design will prevent any further bed and bank erosion. Bank grading and stabilization will provide a floodplain reconnection and create a wetland to reduce pollutant loading rates.

University Boulevard Cricket Field

Stormwater Retrofit Project

Project Description:

• Construct off-line water quality wet pond

• Water diversion via in-line diversion structure located at the corner of West Park Drive and University Boulevard

• An open spillway consisting of a weir wall and riprap channel for safe and non-erosive overflow conveyance to existing drainage channel.

• Pond will augment existing public stormwater facility to provide additional impervious treatment.

Beaverdam #20 Restoration Project

Project Description:

• Project proposes restoration of 1200 LF of stream and retrofitting two existing ponds to increase water quality volume.

• Reducing severe streambank erosion and turbity levels in County’s stormwater quality ponds

• Oaklyn Dry Pond: Project proposes a sand filter pre-treatment forebay, and a landscape meadow mix.

• Beaverdam 20: This downstream pond will be converted to wet pond and increase storage capacity.

• Project will protect the existing exposed WSSC utility lines.

Greenbelt Lake-Pond Retrofit

Project Description:

• Greenbelt lake pond was designed in 1988, and did not provide any water quality treatment.

• Existing forebays capture one-third of the total watershed draining to Greenbelt Lake

• Project proposes removal of ± 2,385 cu.ftof accumulated sediment from two existing forebays

• North Forebay: Total DA: ± 120 acres , Impervious ±28 acres

• South Forebay: Total DA: ± 51 acres , Impervious ±12 acres

Birmingham Estates-High Flow Media(HFM)

Filter/Bio-Swale/Micro-Bioretention

Project Description:

• The proposed improvements will consist of a storm water retrofit to treat storm water before being collected in the existing storm drain network.

• Treatment will occur in proprietary HFM devices installed at curb location or as swales adjacent to the street which will outfall to the existing storm drain in the area.

• Proposed units have been designed to treat the impervious surfaces in its drainage area up to the 1-inch rainfall.

• This practice does not increase the amount of flow into the existing inlet or through the storm drain, this will not negatively affect the hydraulic characteristics of the existing storm drain system.

Muirkirk Pond-Pond RetrofitProject Description:

• In 1990, county converted the existing MuirkirkPond to a shallow wetland marsh, which receives ± 1,152 acres with a total untreated impervious area over 250 acres.

• The proposed work includes removal of sediment built-up primarily south of the entrance channel and at storm drain outfalls.

• Forebays would be created using gabion walls at the channel and storm drain inflows.

• Ingress /egress easements would be required for the construction and future maintenance.
