AS Evaluation Question 6

THE PHYSICAL TECHNOLOGIES I USED:•The Camera•Studio Lights•A Tri-pod •Shoulder Stabilizer Support System•Mac & a Mac Book Pro

I used a camera on top of a Tri-Pod, the camera isobviously used to film all the footage that got filmed. The main decisions when filming with the camera is to make sure the position is good, for after all the shooting is done to ensure clips are able to be a good enough standard to put together to be shown to our audience. Also I needed to make sure I followed all rules for example 180 degree rule ensuring we don’t disorientate the audience when watching back.

Under the camera, we used a Tri-Pod, this is so when we were filming the majority of our shots they were steady straight shots so that the footage taken is not wobbly so the clips look very professional.

I used studio lights at this scene below so I could fully control the entire lighting in this scene. I wanted high key lighting so it’s clear to the audience that this is a nice friendly scene. So it would clearly add a lot of emphasis to the ‘scarier’scenes when I will use low-key lighting.

I used the Shoulder Stabilizer Support System in the scene where the stalker is just about to grab Chloe. After the stalker walks down the stairs of the train station he is a few feet away from Chloe and when he speeds up his walk to catch her that’s when I decided to use this piece of equipment. This is because I can really add emphasis to the speed increase from the stalker and using this even though the footage moves about quickly with this technology it keeps the camera straight so I could maintain the professional look I require for my film title opening sequence.

I used a Mac Book Air during my opening film title sequence, I used this when showing the audience when the stalker begins to stalk Chloe. I learned how I can add emphasis to my stalker using modern day technology so that my stalker looks advanced and looks professional.

I used an iMac to edit all of my footage together to create my film opening title sequence. I learnt a lot on Final Cut Pro X from using this technology in the process, how to cut clips, add transitions, fades, change colour contrasts and much more. I also used the iMac to do all my research where I learnt all about other real media products that are similar to my own thriller film.

Other technology I used in the creation of my film title opening sequence:

• Mahara• Youtube• Pearl and Dean• Garageband• Ben Sound(all websites)

MAHARA

I used Mahara to present all of my progress that I was making from; starting from scratchall the way till my final product was created. I leant from this process to constantly take screenshots of what I was doing, then later on referring to them so I could spot any mistakes and then rectifying them if need be. This allowed the progression of my film opening title sequence to be a smooth and successful as possible.

YOUTUBE

I used Youtube for a fair potion of my research into other real media texts, which are thriller films. So that I could view many different thriller opening title sequences and see if there are any particular conventions that happen in all of them which I did find and then from that research of watching these openings on Youtube I then applied it to my film, e.g. the use of eerie music is a convention of a thriller film which is in most opening title sequences which I then added to my film to follow the conventions. This was to add an extra realism factor to my film so it looks professional so my audience would think they are watching a real block buster film.

Pearl and Dean

Pearl and Dean was vital in my learning of target audience and knowing the exact target audience for my film. I purely used Pearl and Dean to find out about real media texts what there audiences were, especially thriller films like Taken to see whether that particular audience could be representative for my film as we’ve got similar aspects to my film and Taken. I learnt that on this website you are able to see exactly what the stereotypical viewer for a film is like which also includes their social class which is key knowing that for deciding your marketing strategy. For example, upper class people are less likely going to use Instagram so you wouldn’t advertise on the social network.

GARAGEBAND

I learnt how to create eerie scary music for my film opening title sequence using GARAGE-BAND. This is key for me to be able to create the type of music exactly how I want it as you can use the exact instruments you want so it allowed me to create the perfect mood and atomosphere that I wanted to create. I used my Garageband sounds only on the eerie parts of my opening and by using Garageband while creating the perfect sound for my film it made my knowledge of how to make music a lot better so I could create music quicker and more able to create the right tone for my tense scenes.

BEN SOUND

After I created my eerie music in my film, I went on BEN SOUND which has royalty free music which I used as a calm background noise as a calm piano. I learnt from this that there is a lot of music already out there that is free to use. It is a shortcut but can be very helpful if anyone is short of time to create music.
