Question 1In what ways does our media product use, develop or channeled forms and conventions
of real media products.
![Page 3: Presentation1](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022060119/558cbb87d8b42a3d1b8b45fd/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
The script are an alternative rock band, we needed to make sure we demonstrated this in our music video and fitted the
conventions for this type of genre. Most alternative rock bands produce a lot heavier music than the script so we
have made sure we used similar bands for challenging the conventions of them. The song Live Like You’re Dying was all about time and we added a narrative to the story
to give us something to work around. We had a love story which was fine to begin with then fell apart and this is
where we talk about running out of time and then just at the end the star and the other character are all happy
again. This first image I have chosen sets a scene to the video, it’s a
happy, fast paced to shoot the music clip which open the audience into this love story. We choose to use a clip like this because it was just different and more ‘fun’ which is
what we wanted the beginning to feel like. The conventions of an opening to a song can either be really
big and intense to set the scene or may focus and introduce the main star right at the beginning with a
close up but we wanted to challenge this to see how it would work, we choose to have neither the main star or
anything big and intense, how ever I feel this clip still adds effect and still interests the audience.
The images show two of the Foo Fights opening scenes to there songs, researching lots of there music they always start with there main vocalist, capturing a close up image, in
the scene rather than just showing the scene/location/set to open the video. So they base most of there music
around the band not the scene.Below that is an image from the Red Hot chili peppers single
Californication where thy have opted for something completely different. They have created a video game for the film, all the band members are made into characters
running around the city with the cut backs to there human selves. This is something fun and interesting and
this is what we wanted to incorporate info our film.
This clip is fast paced.
Adds to our happy opening narrative.

This image shows our stars face. This close up personal image is a
convention for all music videos, they want to show the audience
there star in a personal way. As our music video had a love story
narrative we used the convention of using lots of close ups to get a
feelings of his emotions and to give this intense feel. A love story is
about emotion and feelings so we wanted to show our audience this
as clearly as we could. We also achieved this with the scenes
we decided to use and the way we used our lighting to set the mood.
To show this in real music video products we have used James blunts single
Broken Strings, although his music isn't really alternative rock the
song is about a love story and with references to time so it was good for us to use this in planning, and to use for the conventions within
the film used. In the song there are many close ups of the stars face to give this personal feel and to show
how he's thinking and feeling. There are clips of him passing as he's confused and the use of the
video being filmed in the bedroom gain adds to this intense personal
feel.
Close up/personal images of toms face.
Allows the audience to understand the stars feelings and attach themselves with the song.

This image shows the happy couple and how things used to be, we have included this to give the narrative some history. This is my favorite clip when we fade it into our stars face because its as if he’s looking back on how things used to be, he's remembering there time together and how happy they were.
I have used Avril Lavigne when you're gone single, because this song shows different people reflections on there relationships, it shows there emotion and feelings and reflects the past and how happy they were.
This is therefore showing how we have developed the conventions used in other music videos in ours.
How times used to be, showing the happy relationship.
Reflecting on the past. This use of fad is very affective.
![Page 6: Presentation1](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022060119/558cbb87d8b42a3d1b8b45fd/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
This image shows the other character in our video, our stars old
girlfriend. Its showing her in a café on her own waiting for tom to arrive as he was meant to be meeting her but doesn’t arrive
and stood her up. This is adding to the effect of a failed
relationship and the conventions of one by not arriving to meet, failing to please, the girl is very
upset and angry. In the video the male lover is a lot more dominant
than the girl. He has control of the relationship.
This fits the conventions of many videos based about love and
relationships. The image of the star standing behind
her adds to the effect of a failed relationship and how he cant
bring himself to go and meet her.The way the girl is constantly checking
her watch also adds to the theme of him. The conventions for a
music video based around a certain narrative are that they
always reflect back on this and have lots of scenes to reflect it.
Checking her watch, adds to the theme of time.
The main character just standing there, watching her, thinking.
Change of scene, little cute coffee shop, adding to the narrative.
![Page 7: Presentation1](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022060119/558cbb87d8b42a3d1b8b45fd/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
We have used lots of changes to our scenes, we didn’t want to base our video all around a couple of locations because we wanted to add history and dept into our narrative to
add to the sense of a failed long relationship. Different music videos have
different amount of scenes to what suites there video best. Some base themselves
on a stage and just rely on the use of different camera angles and technical
effects to interest the audience but as we wanted to add to the theme of time we
needed to make it include lots of different scenes and to add effects to make it look
like our star was looking back on there relationship together and how he missed
it.Below our a two images of some Foo Fighter
music videos there based around there band and on a stage, they want the song to be all about them and the audience to be looking at them this adds to the scene
of being such an among band and they keep this by grabbing the audiences
attention to them only. So we have challenge these norms because we wanted
the video to have lots of different scenes and images and to not just focus on the
main star. And like previously mentioned we needed to add depth and a sense of
history to our video.
![Page 8: Presentation1](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022060119/558cbb87d8b42a3d1b8b45fd/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
This clip in the film shows a clock being smashed. It’s a very powerful impacting
shot which again references to the theme of time. Its hard to show the full effete of this clip which just an image but the clock
is smashed in slow motion and then we reverse it so the clock becomes whole
again. It’s a very effective show and I like the fact that we have used it as the lyrics
say “live like your dying” which is the title of the song and also adds to the sense of
smashing the clocks because time is running own. Live like your dying
empheisises to fact that not a lot of time is left and you need to make the mot of
everything. James Blunts single Broken strings also uses
this effects of smashing objects in slow motion then reversing them in slow
motion. This again makes a very powerful clip and add an intense effect to the video.
The fact that an axe is also used in our video also adds to the intense effect.
Intense/ impacting shot
![Page 9: Presentation1](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022060119/558cbb87d8b42a3d1b8b45fd/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
This 6th image is to give an example the conventions of a love story
and a happy ending. The images are used to illustrate
the narrative we tried to create.
I like the setting used in this image. This clip is after Chloe walked
out from the coffee shop after our star Tom didn’t arrive. The
use of location at the top of the car park gives a very
realistic view to the setting. Chloe is standing on the roof
of the car park and then suddenly tom arrives and it’s a
happy ending. The conventions to any love story
always end up happy, they always involve some sort of
drama. I think we constructed this very well in our video with
the technical effects used, lighting, camera angles and
the scenes we choose.
Happy ever after scene.
![Page 10: Presentation1](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022060119/558cbb87d8b42a3d1b8b45fd/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
Our ancillary products we found rather challenging especially the short deadline however I think
we managed to produce two very appropriate effective products.
For our magazine advert we choose to use an image we took at one of locations we used to
film during the making our video, we then took this image and an image of Toms face
and morphed it so the graffiti image was made to look like toms face, to do this we
altered the opacity of the images and used different brush tools to edit the photo. This
was very effective. The magazine fits the conventions of a real product as it shows our
stars face, on a magazine front cover they always show the main star or the band, this is to attract there target audience and to make
the magazine stand out. As it was a special release magazine to publicize the digipak we
made sure we included the relevant information needed such as the face book page we created, the website and a record
label. We also added a review comment on the top right hand corner this is typically
seen on magazine when publishing products because people want to see experts views on products before they buy them because they trust there views. Again it fits he conventions of music magazines as he title for the singles
name is across the top of the poster. I’m very pleased with the final poster, it fits I with
the rest of the product to as the magazine shows our stars face in the music video and it
has the colorful editing which we focused our digipak around.
![Page 11: Presentation1](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022060119/558cbb87d8b42a3d1b8b45fd/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
This image is an image of our digipak, the point of his digipak was for it to be a special release of
the new single. It was advertised on our magazines and contains the track we used for
our music video. I spent a lot of time of the digipak and I think it’s a very effective use of
editing. The actual digipak doesn’t contain an image of our min star Tom, however it does
have one of Chloe. We liked this though as it adds to the sense of a secrecy/ exclusivity
effect of the special addition CD. We focused really heavily on editing on this product. This
product clanged rather than fits the conventions of many special addition digipak,
they often have there main star or band spread right across he front page however we
went for the exclusive look. Which we preferred. Most and all parts of our products
fitted all the typical conventions but this is where we wanted to challenge them a lot
more and I think it was very successful, we id have ideas to include tom our star in the
forest and in trees but I think the use of these very powerful intense images gives strength
to our product and its something different which our audience would hopefully like and want to try out because its different and eye
catching.Due to time and the lack of it we did decide to only
do a 4 panel pack, if we had more time and we were more organised I would definitely
next time do a 6 panel CD.
