Bridging lives, One Legacy at a Time

About the Foundation

One Legacy's Foundation provides a complete range of services required.

To effectively recover donated organs and tissues, support donor families, and inspire our diverse communities to donate life.

Page 3: Presentation1

To understand their goals to save and heal lives through organ, eye and tissue donation.

To focus on a system that envisions one day when they fulfill the needs of donor families and all who require organ, cornea or tissue transplants for their health and well-being.

Mission

Page 4: Presentation1

To help others understand the needs of this organization because transplantation is still a relatively new and evolving science, it is understandable that people create and spread rumors about organ donation.

A donor’s family is never charged for organ donation. From the moment a family gives consent for donation, One Legacy bears the costs associated with the recovery of organs for transplantation.

However, the family is responsible for all hospital expenses incurred prior to the death of the donor and all funeral expenses.

Values

{

Savannah Faith Sides was the daughter of Stephen and Sandy Sides. She was born August 26th 2001 and died May 15th 2007. A miracle from birth, she proved in her short life to be a special child with unusual compassion. A month before her death from a car accident, she chose to be an organ donor. She said, with wisdom beyond her years, "I won't need them in heaven". She was right, but there were more than 4 people here on earth that made good use of her gifts. In the spirit of her generosity and to celebrate her life, her mother and father host the Savannah Faith Miracle Ride to raise awareness and money for someone who is waiting for that gift today.

Her Life’s wish

Page 6: Presentation1

To fundraise so that we have money to provide conferences, brochures, flyers, and many other things to our community so they will be well educated about organ donations.

We graciously accept charitable contributions in memory or honor of loved ones or in support of our efforts to inspire others to donate life.

Process

Page 10: Presentation1

Donate Life has launched a bold new initiative to register 20 million people in 2012 on their state donor registries.

Each Donate Life state team will have a designated week in 2012 to promote

stories of hope about people from their state and share them through the Facebook pages and websites of Donate Life America.

The Goal

Page 11: Presentation1

One Legacy reaches out to diverse communities with programs that inspire people to donate life.

The foundation focuses on helping the public understand the life-saving and healing benefits of transplantation.

To improving the information and importance of registering as a donor, and how organ and tissue donation strengthens families and communities.

Need in the Community

Page 13: Presentation1

To give the Donor families a chance to attend one ceremony, after which they are welcome to participate in various parts of the services.

To answer questions with a donor family newsletter that connects donor families through stories and shared experiences, addresses grief and the healing journey, and provides information about and invitations to participate in Donate Life community events.

How does this use critical thinking ?

Page 14: Presentation1

To engage actively in a structured counseling and grief support for family and friends.

To propagate an aftercare program that includes bereavement literature, grief support counseling, referrals, follow-up letters, telephone calls, donor family gatherings, and events to honor and remember donors.

To have empathy when dealing with the family and friends of both the donor and recipients.

How does this Promote Critical Action

Page 15: Presentation1

I personally do not know anyone who has donated to this organization , but it doesn’t mean I don’t have the passion to support this foundation. The presentation that I saw in my Death and Dying course changed my goal for what I wanted to do with my degree. The foundation answers any question you have to help you decipher if this is for you and your family.

The story about the little boy who was struck by a car and his family donated his organs , and saved a small child with terminal cancer; she is 15 years old now.

My Connection

{ {The Foundation for Critical Thinking Critical thinking is

understanding (explicate) the need for a problem to have a reasonable solution.

The quality of everything we identify with is determined by the way we use our metacognitive thinking.

One Legacy Donate Life One Legacy strives to change the lives of many who need organ, tissue donations. They maximize the importance of this program, with the awareness of how controversy this issue is to most people.
